Default Muffler install question

Hello,

I was thinking of having a porsche indy install my cat back exhaust (afterhours) and was wondering what I should be looking for in shop hours charged? I would like to have a clue before I go in there. Any info would be appreciated.

As a side bar, Porsche dealer wanted 8 hours to install the PSE, whew! talked me out of it quick!!!!!!

It took me (shadetree mechanic) 3 hours by myself... My knuckles took a beating but other than that it's not that hard to DIY.

I would think someone who wrenches daily and has access to a lift could probably do it in half the time it took me.. Maybe less...

It takes me about an hour to take off and put on my mufflers. Thats with no lift and no power tools so I imagine a shop could do it much quicker.

+1

Its just four clamps and four O2 sensors that you have to remove and replace.

Air tools and no lift, mufflers to by-pass pipes or in reverse = 20 minutes if they are not scalding hot... Cats only add a couple minutes/side so I would say <$100 for an after hours job would be a very nice little job for anyone, includes some stroking your ego too !!
LOL

easy job, one thing you can do is look at the clamp bolts and determine if they are rusty red or brown.. if red, spray some penetrating oil on a couple days before you go, a couple times... this will make it easier and save on breaking any clamp bolts. (though it will smoke when hot till the oil dissipates)

So the labor time for both mufflers R & I is 2.3 hours. It's much less than half of what you were quoted by Porsche because you don't have to take apart the interior to wire the bypass valves if it's not a PSE exhaust.

8 hour labor sounds right for PSE... I did this myself and it is time consuming...
