Used 996 dual-mass flywheel wanted
Ok.. I took the PCar in for a bunch of work. It had a nasty tranny whine in 50+ to 65mph range. It's getting new carrier bearings and some other "fix it while you're there" stuff done.
Also I asked for a new clutch, RMS, IMS, and oil seperator, boot, down pipe.
I guess I got the full life from the clutch. Rivets into the flywheel! so I need a new one since the dual mass ones can't be machined.
If anyone has a used 996 flywheel ( I think a 997 fits too) please let me know and the asking price.

First of all, the dual mass flywheels CAN be and are machined all the time. Secondly, if you do get a used flywheel from someone, do not assume it is balanced. Get is properly tested before installing. An out of balance FW will destroy your engine in a short time.

Balancing question + lightweight option.
I have heard mixed reviews of lightweight flywheel usage. It would seem that if the stock one requires a dual-mass set-up to make the rotor dynamics of the engine work properly through the RPM range, I would suspect that the inertia of it plays an important role.
As far as balancing of the flywheel goes, is this recommended for a new one as well?

I believe the GT3 FW has a different number of holes than the C2/C4 FW (8 vs. 9). I remember that from when I got a LWFW for my C2.

I can get with my mechanic and try to snap a few pics if you want, no idea on condition. I just decided to bite the bullit and get a new one with clutch and motor (what's another $790 on $14k). I'm not sure if I need to send it back with old motor for core return either, will check on that. Let me know if your still interested???

No affiliation, but saw this on the Las Vegas craigslist: http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/pts/801834483.html

Decided to go with a new one...
After discussing with the guy doing the work, I went for a new one. It appears there are other issues with high mileage flywheels as well. The elastomeric material that isolates the face plate from the shaft was stretched and was out of spec as well. I figured any higher mileage part has the same problem.
Thanks for all the input.
