Just about to install my new Fabspeed Mufflers and Sport Cats on my 1999 996 C4. I appreciate everyone's help in choosing upgrades/mods and especially warning me about how addicting this can get!
The first mod will be the exhaust, followed by de-pumpkinizing, painting the calipers, and a new front bumper with side skirts - I look forward to updating with before and after pictures once complete!
I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for putting on the sport cats and exhaust - anything I should be aware of? Any tips for the install? I am assuming it is pretty straightforward and I can basically follow instructions from Fabspeed - but if anyone has run into any issues or if there are any good shortcuts please advise as I would greatly appreciate it!

there are 2 bolts that hold the can to a bracket (1 long and 1 short bolts)... you cant get them off because Porsche mounts them from the top and there is not enough clearance to pull them off from the top.... and must remove the cans by removing 3 nuts that holds the bracket to a mounting frame.
When you install the new exhaust, mount the 2 bolts from the bottom.... when you need to take the mufflers off again, the 2 bolts will come off since they will drop from the bottom. Much easier to R/R the mufflers this way.

I also found that the 3 nuts are nearly impossible to do with conventional tools, but with an air rachet, less than 5 minutes for both sides (learned the hard way about all of these pointers, 1st swap too almost 2 hours, 2nd was about 40 minutes and the 3rd was about 25 minutes from car up to can on the ground and driving...
OH.. I also soaked the muffler clamp nuts with some penatrating oil about 1/2 hour before even starting anything, on one car I had to work them back and forth a bit to remove the crud that was on the threads.. take your time if they are a mess, they will come... keep them cool with oil, and work them back and forth. If they are clean, they will come right off n/p
Last thing, IF you are using the old clamps you have to remove the inner sleeve (in some applications) to do this I removed the bolt completely and jammed a wedge (Ball joint removal tool) in the clamp part to open it up so it came off with ease... this took a long time to figure out on my first try, after that, it was fast and easy

I pulled my stock cans off by jacking up the car and removing the rear tires. In between the cans and the frame is a plate that has 3 bolts that face horizontal (small space to work with but not impossible). On Tims diagram its the bolts that are on "28". I used a ratchet and carefully remove the bolts. The muffler and plate came off together. Took the plates off and put them on my new exhaust.
I first tried to get the 2 bolts facing vertical off that was instructed but came across the same problem of the frame in the way.

Thanks guys, this is all great information for to have - I am fortunate enough to be able to use a friend's lift, so I am hoping this will make the swap easier on me
