C2 or a C4???

Aaah. A future project car. In that case, IMHO, get a C2. Simpler, no AWD to deal with when modding, no "extras" that you may or may not want. GT3 would actually still be a better base to start from.

If you plan for a future TT motor I'd recommend you get the TT straight out of the box.
- The TT motor is major expensive.
- It uses a different transmission
- It uses a different DME
- It would not be a simple plug and play swap
It will be waaaaaay cheaper to just get a used 996 Turbo up front

I don't plan on buying a new crate engine, I was going to get a pulled engine out of a wrecked TT from a Porsche salvage yard. Those come with the transmission and DME. This allows me to rebuild the tranny and engine internals to the specs needed for upgraded turbos and such.
Just the fact of needing to fabricate the SMIC scoops into the rear quarters and all of the IC piping make it far from a plug and play swap.
Plus if I had $50K to burn and get a TT right off the bat I would but I don't. Besides, this will make a good project for my son and I when he is a little older and ready.

My $0.02 is that if you're looking to emulate a GT2, it might be less trouble to start with a 996TT and convert it to RWD and add the GT2 bits and pieces. Or take a 996 and supercharge or turbocharge it. Dropping a TT engine into 996 chassis not designed for it seems like a difficult proposition.

IMHO, you are in sunny CA, why do you need AWD? It just makes the car slightly slower, without reaping the rewards of driving in the snow (like the Coochas video of the C4 sliding around the N'bg Ring)!

If I had to go for a drive in the snow and I had the following two cars sitting in my garage.
- 996 C4 w/summer or all season tires
- 996 C2 w/snow tires
I'd grab the keys to the C2. Snow tires are that important in the snow IMHO.
(FWIW obviously a C4 with snow tires would be the "best" choice for driving in the snow)

The c4 feels more planted in front at speed. However, traction control and the awd make driving fast too easy, it's not scary. My latest has 2wd and no traction, the way I like it. Now, I scare myself all the time....... Stock c2's feel light in front imo, however, the aero is very planted and similar to c4 in feeling at high speed in straight but still feels responsive and nimble plus scary........ he he.
