Pics of new pedal install
New member - a few posts. I know the "mod bug" very well from some past cars. I've tried to tell myself I wouldn't go overboard with the "new" 996. I've settled for internal aesthetic improvements for now - in lieu of trying to improve performance or "aural" experience with exhaust or intake - giving it some time to see and research what works in those areas.
I really thought the stock pedals looked, well, boring. Today, installed a new set of pedals from RennLine. I added the extra extensions on the accelerator - and it feels pretty good. I also added a folding towhook in preparation for the DE I'm scheduled to attend in a few weeks.
Here are the pics:

New Pedals - (I think a dramatic improvement)

And my new folding tow-hook, also got my magnetic numbers today, but I'm too lazy to clean off the surfaces and "try them on!"

Install was a piece of cake. I'm one to use my eyes more than a spirit level to get things looking right, so I didn't obsess. Key thing is that the dead pedal and the accelerator use self-tapping screws so don't overtighten. As for the brake and clutch, I started with the bottom screw (used one in the bottom center, and two flanking the top) and then centered it by eye and drilled the pedals right through the new platforms (clutch platform is plastic, brake is metal). Also, make sure you leave enough room on the left side of the clutch to accept the nut on the back, because the clutch arm is centered a bit left on the platform.
Heel and toe is significantly easier, regardless of shoes - either using your heel, or rolling off the ball of the right foot. When the brake pedal is actually depressed (when you're supposed to be using H/T) the level of the accelerator in relation to the brake pedal is about perfect for me. Also, if you have a smaller foot, I'm sure using the heel to blip the accelerator would work just great with the lower pedal extension. For me, I have to put my foot too high on the brake to make this natural.
Yes, it's probably more eye-candy, and I smile when I get into the car even more now...
Asheville - well, I can't say enough great things about this place. People make the difference - it's the kind of place that people don't honk horns, even sitting through an entire stop light cycle - what's the rush??? That translates to all kinds of good things when living here. The driving is unparalleled, very little traffic and absolutely stunning roads. I ride the motorcycle plenty and that's made me so much better driving 4 wheels. Lessons that are just not possible in "cages."
Thanks for the kudos - great board - and great participants.
