I asked for a copy of their service records since the porsche arrived at carmax. To their credit their "120 point inspection" seemed very thorough. They caught the RMS leak and sent the car to a porsche dealer for repair. The Cab mechanism was also repaired at the dealer. They also put on 2 brand new rear tires, wiper blades, a mobil 1 oil change, and knew enough to fill the tank with premium.

I'm still sending the car to TPC for a second look. They're only charging $100 for my "post pruchase" PPI.

The 5yr/60,000 extended warranty ended up being $2300 so conisdering the car had the RMS problem once I figured it was a good idea and a good deal. Plus there's the piece of mind that comes along with having a bumper to bumper warranty until the car hits 110k miles.

I'm hoping to get the car home in the next couple of days. I know you hear alot of bad things on the internet but thus far the Carmax folks have been great.

Welcome to RL and your new Porsche Dream (or second dream, 1st realized) car. I also have 996 but C2. Like you I liked the older body styles but worried about reliability and things. I waited this long (28 years for me) I don't want to spend all my time fixing it... go drive it, join a club and learn to really drive it!!

I like the fact that others out there feel the need to walk into the garage several times a day and talk sweet nothings to their beloved cars (you did say that right??) LOL

For me, it is a bit of a sickness and I have polished my car so many times that I know every inch of it by heart. I know it has problems, but I know what they are now. I am sure other have done the same (right?)

LOL

Enjoy your car, take your wife out in it and remember, she IS jealous of your new baby, let her know she is still #1

Remember every single time you get in it that it's a Porsche and meant to be driven like one.(when your environment is right)

Welcome aboard and prepare to empty your wallet towards mods.

I picked it up yesterday at lunch and have put 130 miles on it so far averaging 15 MPG along the way =).

I'll post the pics as soon as I find a place to host them.

The Car has the carbon fiber package but the clearcoat (?) for the CF on the steering wheel is cracked. Can these be repaired? I have a friend who works for an insurance company and is checking for salvage parts for me.
