You "test-marketed" it?
I guess someone else is "test-marketing" you.

That's a proven buying technique when buying from a private party.

You try to get the seller to agree to a lower price on the very first question.
Once the seller has offered a lower price right off the bat, then try to find other things: tires, scratch in paint, brakes, whatever else, to get an even lower price.

GL with the sale if you're serious.

Nope, If I were to accept his offer it's as-is or he is packing.

Test market: It does not cost me a cent to post on cragslist. So I posted it a little high just to see if I get any bites. and I have. At least I know. If I posted it for 60 I doubt anyone would call. If I posted it for 40 the phone would be ringing off the hook. I may still decide to post it on Auto Trader for 50 and see where that goes.

I've kinda kept track of what people on this board got their C4S's for over the past several months. I was considering trading for one before my engine blew on my C2.
Anyway, two that I wrote down at the time were as follows.......
1. 2003 C4S, CPO, nicely optioned, 10,500 miles, the person bought for $52,000
2. 2002 C4s, CPO, 35,000 miles, the person bought it for $42,500

HAHA CRAIGSLIST SUCKS, YOU FOUND YOURSELF A GARAGE SALE SHOPPER, TYPICAL DUMBASS OFFERING MONEY HE DOESNT HAVE ON SOMETHING HE HASN'T SEEN. Seriously, do yourself a favor, and tell him to shove off. $10 says he could'nt buy a bicycle......

Overall market sucks.

I bought my 996 for 10K+ under blue book.

I just sold my M3 for about 6K under what it was worth.

If you can get close to what you think the car is worth Id take it. It took me 3 months to sell my M3 and I thought I would have sold it in a weekend.

I wouldn't trust this offer. Seriously, would you offer $45k without even looking at a car. I'd bet he wasn't serious.
We had our car up on autotrader and we got a bunch of low ball offers--just ppl fishing--offers 40% below what we were asking.

I saw a 60K mile '03 C4S for a $38K BIN on Ebay the other day. It's incredible how much prices have gone down...

Obviously yours is a lower mileage car, but $45K is not out of line IMO.

you have a beautiful ride, but it is a buyers market right now. i just bought a 2002c4s arctic silver, black full leather near perfect condition 6spd for 35,000...rims are not stock but the are 2 pce gemballa speedline corsa's. however mileage is 55,000 and needs wiper bldes and front brakes and passed ppi. this was in s SoCal area where ther is certainly a glut of nice p-cars. but so far my favorite p-car by far...good luck, hope you get a buyer ,kev

IMO you have to find someone willing to pay for low miles and a nice car. I was as I just bought an 03 targa with 16,000 miles. I paid for it but to me it was worth it. I love every mile I put on it.

Yes, it just kills me that what I thought was a crazy low price just a few months ago is now just average.
