Default Oil level indicator warning

I got the "oil level indicator" error plus the picture of a fuel can for 3 seconds on the dash and oil level pressure gauge dropped to 0 for like 2 seconds and then it was normal again. Any idea what it is?

I checked the oil level using the dip stick and everything looks fine. Was that a glitch? Also some board members say to reseat the wiring into the sending unit. Where is this sending unit btw?

Thanks for pointers.

quite possibly the oil pressure sending unit. from past posts, you can either clean the connections or replace the sending unit. it has happened rarely on my 03 911 C2 but its disconcerning when it does happen. hadn happened in about a year but did about 3 weeks ago while on the turnpike doing 70 or so - always happens at highway speeds with me. anyway, I dont like the worry when it does occur, so when i go in for my 30k service in August, i'm going to have my indy put in a new sending unit.

Would you mind pointing me where the sending unit is? I would like to clean the connectors this weekend.

Mine does this occasionally. I took it to the Porsche dealer to have them check it and they could find nothing wrong.

One reason the light will turn on is when the rpm's drop and the oil pressure indicator drops below .5 or so (somewhere below the lowest indicator line).

Mine's done this a few times after I've been driving for a while and the engine is heated up, and I come to a stop - and the level light sometimes pops on as the idle was a bit uneven. Tapping the throttle clears it for me. I think it's related, in my case, to my Air-Oil Separator - which I think is going out because it's belched smoke a few times on start-up, and the AOS going out can affect the idle.

Mine does this too. I can tell you where the oil pressure sensor is located. If you open the engine cover and look down the right hand side or the engine you will see a small cylinder sticking up, probably about 3/4 of the way along the engine with two wires connected to it. You'll probably need a flashlight to see it. If you can't see what I'm talking about then I will try to post a photo later.

OK, here is the image. This is looking straight down the right hand side of the engine from the rear. It is a tight fit down there but you should be able to see it. The two connectors are slightly different widths, make sure you note which one goes where if you take them both off - it'll be much easier to put them back on!

I've had the same issue. After cleaning the connections to the sending unit a couple times and having the problem return, I put a glob of dielectric grease on each connector and haven't had a problem since. Why Porsche didn't use a weatherproof connector is beyond me.

I'm terrified

My car showed the oil pressure check alert 3 days ago.
I was in second gear at 2000 rpm, and I passed through a great pothole. Suddenly the oil check alerted me , and the oil pressure gauge fall down to zero.
I swichted off the car and sent to my specialist and confident mechanic in a wrecker (or breakdown van).
He was on Portugal for a hollyday and till september 4th, will not come back. So I don't know what would happen to my loved p-car yet.
let's hope everything turns out all right! I am dreaming about it'd be the oil pressure sensor... if not, you know what we are talking about

The car has only 26.600 kms

I want to ask you guys who has suffered this issue, if someone had an engine catrastrophic failure

Thanks in advance

Do you think that this is the location?

Perhaps european cars have different compounds
