Glad to hear that you're ok!
I was hoping for a check and a car-crusher.
What direction would you want to go if this is the case?

CP,
My car was damaged in a similar manner, and the body shop did all work with the exception of alignment; they took it over to Hennessy Porsche for that.
The body shop gets together with the insurance adjuster, they do an initial estimate, you get the check for that, and then they start work on the car. Then they do a "supplement", once all damage is uncovered/determined.
FWIW, on my car, the initial payment was ~$6000, the supplement was ~$5900. The body shop warranted all the mechanical repairs just as if Porsche had done them.

As a Paint and Body shop owner, I would highly advise that you are also present when the adjuster is doing the initial estimate and then also go back once they have 'torn the car down' to make sure they dont miss anything that should be fixed. Insurance companies try to do as little as possible and try to squeeze both the customer and the body shop. Remember, you can take it to any shop that you want to get the work done at, that is the law.

Wellard, Redridge - thanks for the note. Need any percocet? (Note to authorities: that was a joke.)

Good question. Maybe a mid-90's Volvo diesel sedan. You know, rock solid and slow as hell. Really, i don't know what I would do. Put it in the car fund and wait awhile until something came along, probably. But I'm pretty sure this car is coming back to me.

cfp43 - good tip; thanks. I have a feeling you're going to be drawn upon as a resource around here.

Marc, MIssed your note the first time through. "Ouch" was exactly what I said after coming to final rest. As I spun, I was thinking, if I hit a tree, I'm going to die. But I missed the trees, and then stopped, and said, "Ouch." 'Cause it actually hurt. Then it was a string of expletives.

I've been in other wrecks, and didn't feel pain until later. In this one, the pain was instant. It was my first airbag crash and that's where the pain came from.

Sorry to hear about the car, but most importantly, you are bruised but not broken.

I feel your pain. I spun out and hit a jersey wall on an on ramp after hitting a patch of black ice a couple of years ago. The good news is you're okay -- the car can be fixed!

I think very often that something like that could happen to me anytime.
I use those thoughts and fear as a sort of protection shield.

Then I fully enjoy my ride, as if it was the last one.
