Need Cat converter replacement for 02 996 C2

Sounds like you're still under warranty. If not, my dealer said $1300 to replace my driver's side Cat (was rattling and throwing CEL). I spent 1500 (1600 or so with install) and got both Fabspeed Cats instead. It was a good ten to fifteen pounds less and sounds a lot better. Plus, don't ignore that rattle. My Cat threw crap into my muffler and it had to go too... (spent about 400 to replace with another used stocker). So if its under warranty (or not), make sure it hasn't sent pieces into the muffler also.
Just FYI. This was on my 01 C4 Cabrio.

I've had to replace both cats on mine. Both times it rattled first but as others have said I had to wait for the light to come on before the dealer would replace under warranty. It sucked, but I drove around with them rattling rather than pay out of my pocket. Lights came on shortly after the rattle started fortunately.

Don't know for sure. Probably not. If the converters are part of the engine's exhaust manifold the manifold is sized to the engine's exhaust port openings and a the 3.4l exhaust manifold will have smaller tubing size than the 3.6l exhaust manifold.
One round about way is to get the VIN for 3.4l car and the VIN for 3.6l car and visit your local Porsche dealer parts department and have parts department look up part number for the converter for the 3.4l car and the converter for the 3.6l car.
If part numbers are the same...
Odds are they will not be the same.
Another way would be to take a peek under a 3.4l engine and under a 3.6l engine to note if there are any visual differences. If so, odds are the converters are not interchangeable.
Sincerely,
Macster.
