Default 996TT reliability issues? What can/will go wrong.

Earlier I was toying with the idea of getting a 996TT in a few years, definitely not now. But I've heard from some people that the 996's had some troubles in the designs of the engine, that it always leaks from the RMS, etc.

Before I sell my organs and start a piggybank for a 996, what should I know that could or will go wrong with the car if I got it? I wouldn't abuse it, but would drive it the way it is meant to be driven. How reliable is the car for DD duty?

TIA.

More reliable than the 'regular' 996 and a blast to drive as a DD.
Do remember that the TT engine is derived from a true racing engine, and virtually bullet proof.

It is the regular 996 engine that has the RMS issues.
When buying a 996TT, make sure to check for second gear pop out and perform a DME (check for critical over revs).

Hope this helps,

im assuming the DME check is one of those things where the dealer plugs into the car and tells you everything thats ever happened to the car?

and by pop-out, does the shifter just not want to stay in 2nd sometimes? how can that be addressed? (short of jamming it every time lol)

Turbos are really bullet proof
not common but most common failures
idler pulley, minor
slave acumulator or slave cylinder, not to major
maf sensor, common

thats about the only normal ones
