Default 996 trunk release - manual override?

My friend's trunk release has quit - is there a maunal override or a diagnostic that can be done to get into the trunk? Both the remote and the release switch in the car are not working. Appreciate your help!

The car is 2001 but the fuse box looks much like the picture you have attached. Is there a manual release also? Can the systems be jumped in some way?

Yes, I do hear a click when I press the release button, but that is all-

Thanks for your help!

In my 2002 there is a cable you can pull if you open the passenger door and look down towards the trunk, I believe. Wait..that ,might be the gas door release...I just had the nose off my car and SAW the manual cable which travels toward the passenger side of the car...maybe under the fender liner....

If you hear a click when you press the release button then the latch is getting power. I know there's an override used to pop the luggage compartment lid if your battery is dead, this is done via the fuse box; but in this situation I don't believe it will be any use to you.

Have you tried pressing the release button while gently pulling up on the trunk?

There's a cable in the right front wheel well you can pull to release, but it's kind of hard to find.

My ( 2001 ) pic's pretty blurry, but like you say, the same as Statman's. Take the red cap off the spot in the fuse box and hook the positive jumper cable there, the negative can go any where ( metal ) on the body.

search thread for keyword trunk.
to make a story short, there's cable you can pull, it's behind the passage side front wheel. better to take out the wheel before you try it.
if it doesn't work, that means the trunk release may jamed up. try it a few more time, also try to lock/unlock your car a few times,
if nothing works out, then you have to take out your front bumper to reach to the lock. there's a thread details that operation
