Default Disaster Strikes...

Anyone know how to get chewing gum off a car mat?

I must've stepped in it just before I got in the car... I'm livid. People too lazy to spit their gum in the trash. Kill em all!

Try either Carbona liquid or Goo-Gone. Try a tiny bit on a pied of mat before you use it to get the gum off - to make sure it won't damage or change the color of the mat.

The Go-Gone is really good stuff, but I have also seen ice cubes work very well on gum if it isn't to ground into the carpet. Just hold ice cube to gum and it stiffens it up enough to remove bigger pieces more easily, then you can use the Go-gone to finish up the job.

You might want to test your mat before trying this, but rubbing alcohol worked for me. It hardened the gum up so it just chipped off.

You might have to call the insurance co and ask that the car be written off! Actually, rubbing alcohol and/or ice cubes works well. You want to harden the gum as much as possible and chip it off. Putting the mat in the freezer would work too...if your wife lets you get away with that!

Put the mat in the freezer for a few hours and use fingernail (or some other tool) to lift gum off.

If you have to replace it, avoid the remanufactured floor mats.

Apologies for being dramatic... this was a major deal to me last night! In the cold light of day its small potatoes compared to a blown engine.

I put the mat straight in the freezer last night, missus didn't blink an eye... it's pretty ground in there so I think I'll look for that goo-gone stuff.

Remember, chewing gum gets it's flavor back.

I think they'll have to replace your entire engine.

Try hot, almost boiling, water, then scrape off with a knife or plastic spatula.
