Default Billy Boat Muffler yes/no?

I've been offered a "great deal" on a set of lightly used (5,000 miles) BB Mufflers. Does anyone who has or has had these mufflers have any feedback to offer? How is the sound? Can I expect a noticeable increase in performance?

Thanks in advance.

if it is avail. for 50% or less, what do you have to lose?
if you don't like it, put it on evil-bay.

I had them on my 993. They developed internal cracks and the baffles rattled. This was a common complaint apparently. Perhaps they have gotten better but at the time I was not impressed. Had much better results with GHL on my 2001 Boxster. First generation developed a similar problem to the BB and GHL replaced free, sight unseen. replacement set still going strong 6 years later and sound nice too.
PSE would be even better if you can find a set.

I have a set of Billy Boat headers and mufflers that I absolutely love. I have had them on both my 996s and I haven't heard a set that I liked better. The used set on ebay will be a great deal at anything under $700. The Billy Boat site has a sound clip. Good fit, no resonance, and incredible sound at redline. I think Wellardmac has them also.

Thanks for the feedback; I'd prefer PSE but haven't seen any at a price that wouldn't get me divorced. I think if I can get them for $600 I'll do so.

Yup, I have them and love them. The previous owner installed them and I bought the car because of them - the sound is out of this world when compared to the standard Porsche sound.

Here's a video clip.

I had B&B exhaust and headers on my 86 Carrera and it sounded great. I heard all the stories about the quality and cracking but I never had a problem and the car is still running around my town with no problems.

I have them on my 99 C2 and love them. Not too crazy, but a nice mellow hum...and find I am complimented all the time on the sound.

everytime i hear an aftermarket exhaust the more i appreciate the signature pse muffler noise. i've heard nothing that sounds as good to date. my recommendation is save up some more, buy her something to balance out the universe to get yourself that special pse noise to which there really is no substitutey

I have the B&B's on my 986, they are pretty loud and boomy and do drone some. I love them. If you are in the market for fairly loud mufflers I say take the plunge.

As far as PSE is concerned, much too quiet. I love the tone and gutteral growl but if you are looking for a louder exhaust it simply won't do (not to mention the outrageous price). For 996's I say that GHL is the way to go. They are like half the price and sound somewhat like PSE with the added bonus that you can choose from quiet or loud versions of the muffler upon purchase (i know i know that PSE has switchable output but it is also twice as much and twice as heavy).

i respect your opinion and some may have less sensitive ears than I, but I come from a Japanese roadster with a pretty loud boomy exhaust from a company called HKS and add forced induction to that and you get even louder... and I'd say the PSE is plenty loud sans the drone.

I'm not sure how much louder one would really want it so to give off the impression that PSE is too quiet, to me, is a serious misnomer.

Default How much does the PSE cost?

How much does the PSE cost? That sounds fantastic. My car is a 2003 C4S
