Default Do you usually back into a parking spot?

1. Because the long front pointy shape that its hard to judge when it will hit.
2. Better clearance on the tail bumper height.

Not usually. I only do at the monthly PCA meeting because everyone else does!

I learned that the Japanese always back into their parking spots which speaks not just on their lack of space in their very urban areas, but goes further to symbolize some of their conservative cultural values.

Since I've come to know about this, I started backing into parking spots more so than ever before. I have bad clearance in either direction so I usually end up looking like a lousy parking guy.

I have also learned that you need less front clearance space when driving away from your spot because your front turning wheels can angle the car earlier.

Nope--not quite up for backing in. Of course, I'm usually parking way out somewhere where no one else is around anyway.

Straight in head first.
Precise and consistent with side clearances on first try. I do pull through to the front spot when possible (often done at groceries and the like since I park away from it all).
You are right about the front hitting/scrapping and am very cautious/conservative about this

Benjamin,

How does backing into a space take less room than not?

My DD is a pickup truck and if I'm in a place with narrow aisles between the rows of parked cars, backing into the spot is the only option because of how long the truck is. It's also safer too because you can see all around you as you are backing into a spot. When you leave, you have great visibility in front and down the aisle so you won't squash a kid. If you have to back out of a parking spot when you leave, then your visibility is poor and a collision with a person, shopping cart, speeding idiot is more likely.

Cheers,

meaning when you pull out of the spot per chsu

but for me it's more of a ... i feel better about just putting into 1st and driving out v. having to back out when i leave my spot from home. if the spot's too tight, then i don't back it in.

valet man.

just kidding (well usually). I only back in if it's really tight or if I need extra clearance to get something cumbersome out of the trunk.

One of the reasons why Porsche rounded the front bumpers is that you can pull into tight parking spaces or garages... with that said I dont park in tight spaces and always back it in. Sometimes, Porsche know squat about their customers.
