Default My car is possessed!! Windows go down on their own!

My car has developed a bizarre problem. Sometimes at random while driving or sitting still the doors will unlock and the windows will roll down on their own. The problem has now migrated to the windows rolling down when the car is parked and no one is around! Any ides? The only symptom I notice also is that the interior light comes on also and the door lock button becomes disabled for a minute or two when this happens.

I've seen similar behavior on other makes of cars and it's ended up being a bad alternator. No idea if that's the most common scenario on the 996 or not, though...

I had the random locking on my 944S. I traced it to a pinched microswitch wire for the key locks.

The ignition switch can cause all types of funky electrical problems when it's on it's way out.

Might want to give that a shot,it's only $15.

Ok, now things are starting to add up. Today, I noticed that when I turn the engine off, the ignition switch feels "spongy" and will not lock in the key removal position easily. When i finally get it to lock so I can remove the key, the dash still says the key is in the ignition.

Now what?

Check on eBay.

Porsche sells the whole ignition assembly as one piece, not the part you need.

It's an Audi/VW part ignition switch. You can use that one part only.

Have fun!

Thanks for the info and the links. I'm gonna go with my wife to a few of her yoga classes so I can limber up enough to fold myself under the dash!

This replacement seems simple enough so I'll give it a shot.
