The cheap route - Um...Yeah...
So...originally, I decide to buy the Schnell short shift kit from Vertex to save cash... Immediatey upon receipt of the SSK I notice there are no spacers between the linkage and the housing. I shrug it off and install it. Works great for a month. Then, all of a sudden I get a ton of slop.
Upon taking it apart, I notice the ball end on the left side is too small for the chamber. Thus produces the side-to-side slop. RRrrrrrrr...
This is what I get for trying to be a cheap bastage.
Contact Eric at Bumperplugs.com (best price on the internet for the B&M SSK). Order it on Monday. Gets here the next day. Nice.
Installation of the B&M takes me about 30 min. Talk about immediate difference. B&M has a fantastically manufactured product. Properly put together and installs perfectly.
So in the end, I paid close to the same money as I could have spent on the Porsche OE SSK. DAMN IT.
Schnell SSK Verdict: Poorly engineered & executed garbage. Stay far away.
B&M verdict - Awesome. Perfectly fits, and works flawlessly.
Lesson learned.

good to know. i have a schnell and HATE the slop. was worried that the B&M was the same. you're the first person i know that's tried both in his car. Norbert - who did you buy the B&M clone from on Ebay?
EDIT: screw that; in the spirit of the title of this post, who's got the right price on the B&M?

Good guy, great price ($199).

Agreed - a well installed B&M is a tremendous improvement over the 996 OEM. I was lucky enough to find the Porsche sport shifter (used) for $200 and I love it.

here's a prev thread..
There seems to be some confusion...Let clear up what I meant. The shifter is a bit more vertical (the angle) when centered than the B&M on my old 996.
All shifters return to center.
redridge: The bushings have adjustments to accomodate for the slop. Like I mentioned, not bad for what the price is.
