the 996 got me in trouble
Presenting . . . . my ***first ever*** speeding ticket. After 15 years of BMWs, it's 3 weeks in with the 996 and I scored this afternoon in Santa Monica.
But it was only for 53 in a 35 mile zone. Jeez, I'm driving up to San Francisco this week and was hoping for a 110 in a 75. Big disappointment!

If you don't have any info how could you possibly determine that his behavior was or was not reckless?

Are you familiar with this road? Where you present to observe road conditions during this incident? Was the limit there set by the "85th percentile rule" or just some arbitrary figure?

I wasn't there and I don't know that road so I would be very reluctant to use a term like "reckless". But hey, let he who doesn't speed cast the first stone.

So you were there then? You witnessed him speeding with joggers, walkers, and cyclist present? I suppose when you drive it is always at or below the limit?

I agree with the other two folks. 53 on a 35, specifically San Vicente in Santa Monica/West LA is a little too fast. You have to live here to KNOW. And it's always like that (crowded, walkers, joggers, cars parked on the street, etc) at any time of day.

I got stopped for 56 in a 35. I was about 2 miles from the town of 880 people out on a country road. I would defy anyone to explain to me why it was 35 there. Just prior to the sign it was 55. No signs warning of the change, just an unmarked local cop sitting in the woods with a radar detector aimed at the 35 speed limit sign. What made the speed OK at 55 all the way up to the sign?
These are the easiest tickets for a cop to give and it has notheing to do with public safety. If I'm in a residential area, I'm more that likely doing 30 in a 35.
Don't get me started...
