My '00 had 17k miles on it when I bought it last year. I paid a premium for getting a car that looked, and smelled new inside! Buttons were not worn, seats are like new, steering wheel is like new. Suspension and handling is super tight. Worth it to me to pay more and chance the low miles, to get a car that feels new. Haven't had a drop of oil leak, or a single problem so far after driving it 2k miles.

I also got a 2 year extened warranty, so if the engine blows up this summer, I am covered! Knocking on wood as I type!

Andy, do you mind disclosing what you paid, including options minus extended warranty. Like your car, this car is immaculate in and out..not a real blemish to be found.

I paid $39k - Which is high in today's market, but back last year, it was close to home, had all the options I wanted (except PSM):

Color combo
Full Leather
3 Spoke Steering wheel
Xenon headlights
Hi-Fi sound (not quite)
18" Turbo Twists
Fake Aluminum look shifter and E-Brake

I paid a few thousand more than if I waited, and got a car with 35k miles or more. But I'm happy!

Andy, please clarify this for me. Are you "knocking on wood" in hopes that that the engine will blow up this summer so you can get a new one, or do you not want it to explode?

Ha! Knocking on wood to not jinx myself. Sure, a new motor would be nice, but who needs the hassle!? I'd rather it lasts and lasts with no problems.

I love White and the red full leather sounds cool. I also own a 2001 996 and replaced the 3.4 L engine just last month with dealer remanufacture at 57,000 miles, last two years track miles. Now the car with the new engine is awesome.

I just got my 01 with 10,500 miles and it's fasinating that a 7-8 year old car will still smell new...even the engine bay smells new. Amazing. I got a 2 year CPO too...I think its key to a car that has really sat around too much for most of its life. Without a warranty I would get one that has been driven.

Awesome! You can drive the hell out of the car for a few years, and still have a low miles car! And a CPO (or is it an aftermarket warranty)?

Going by some posts one can get the idea that buying an older 996 with low miles and no warranty is a mistake, run. It will blow up when finally driven.
If the previous owner, PPI, service records, options, and test drive all check out AND it has low miles, well great find, especially at $ 30K or so.
Nothing much to think about

Are you saying that if the mint low mileage p-car you just bought did not have a warranty, you would have passed on it just for this reason alone?

The only potential problem I see with the white/red car is that the seller is on "Lemmon Avenue."

FYI - I paid $39,000 2 years ago for my 2000 C4 with 27,000 miles. Loaded, new tires, spotless everything and 2 year Porche Certified Warranty. It was listed for $46,000 originally but was over priced, thus the 5g savings. It was the going rate then in my area for a like new loaded car. If I was going to put my car on right now, I would ask $32,000 since it is still spotless. These $20,000 porsches...give me a break. You get what you pay for.

I saw a couple C2's at the time with 70,000+ and were in the high 20's and were pieces of junk as far as how they were taken care of.

Sold a 97 Boxster at the time...spotless with 54,000 miles for $18,000!!
