Most threads on here discuss installing new (race) seats.
Has anyone lowered their stock seats? Either with new brackets, or some kind of modification of the seat, or..?
Getting another 1" or 1.5" of headroom would be perfect.

Surprisingly I'm only 6' tall. It must be all in the torso. With the seats dropped all the way I still rub my hair against the roof.
Unless someone has a better idea, I'm considering just buying my 996, taking the seat apart, and having faith I can discover some kind of way to modify the seat to give me my space.
Even if i need some welding done or have to buy a bracket, that's just $100-$200... vs. $1000 - $2000 to buy new seats which are overkill anyways.

Stock seats probably not since you have the mechanisms. But, someone probably knows of a slim line race seat along with making custom brackets. BTW, I am 6'2" and I fit with room to spare, even with a helmet on but it is tight. I did always lean my seat far back though.

I have noticed that my current power seats sit quite a bit lower than the manual seats in my previous Boxster; power seats might be best for you.
I'm 6'-5" and don't have headroom problems, but I would like some more fore-aft seat travel if I could find a hack to provide that.

Yeah, there's a button on the side of the seat. Sheesh, THAT one was easy.

Yes the power seats seem to have slightly more room. From what I understand, the factory lowering option is simply seats with less cushions. Unless I'm wrong, i'd have to order a whole new seat and would get only 10mm (like 3/8") of room.

I thought the manaul seats were lower than the power? The power seats I tried(02-04) definatly sat higher than the manual seats. I looked for a car with manual seats for that porpouse and because they were lighter.

There really isn't a good solution that I have found other than GT3 seats with the Brey-Krause seat mounts or some other after market solution.
BTW... I asked Brey-Krause to make lower seat mounts for the stock seats 3 or 4 years ago as I thought there was market for them - but no luck...

It if were me, I'd have an upholstery shop trim the seat cushion by a fair bit, and recover it in alcantara instead. More butt grip, less height... If you indeed have a long torso, that'll help having your shoulders at the right height too with your rotator cuff hitting the seat back "wings" (if you have sports seats).
Way back when I put sparco Evos in my boxster (same seats as a 996 originally). It wasn;t that much lower after all the brackets and sliders... Just better lateral support.

How straight up and down is your seat back? I'm 6.5 with only a 34" inseam and can wear a hat with no problem. Try tilting the seat back and moving the base forward. That will easily give you a few more inches. Now, if you're sitting so tall because of 20 pounds extra on your ***, nothing will work.
