DIY cat change?
I've got a catalytic converter that rattles at idle, making the car sound like crap (it runs fine, however). My indy and the dealer both acknowledge that the cat is bad, but the dealer won't change it under warranty until it triggers a CEL. They'd be happy to change it out on my nickel, which is pretty pricey. I've considered buying the part through Sunset and doing the install myself, but wanted to run it by the board. Feasible DIY job? Worth the cash? Should I just wait until the CEL comes on?

how long has it been rattling? It is only a matter of time before the CEL comes on. Did you check with another dealer to see if they'd cover it? If the part is bad, it should be replaced under the emissions warranty without problems (just had mine replaced again in October). I'd hate to see them invalidate your emissions warranty by you installing the cat yourself.
