Default Curiosity might get the best of me!!

Every 6 months or so, I tend to stop by my local Porsche dealer and sniff around the new models. On my last trip I test drove a 2007 Boxster S (290hp) and LOVED IT.

I’m not in the market, but I wondered if anyone has contemplated the swap from 996 to Boxster??

I'd love to test drive one, though I'd never do it.

It was a surprisingly fun drive. From the drivers seat, you forget your in a boxster

I love convertibles and think the Boxster looks great and I'm sure drives great.

I just can't give up the 911, though. I think it ultimately is the sexier car.

I had a Boxster S before the 996 and while I miss the handling of Boxster I just cant see giving up the sound the 911 makes among other things.

Went from a Boxster to the 996. Boxster does handle amazingly. Yes, better than my 996 C4. Power, sound, looks etc...all go to the 996. It is just a classier car. Wouldn't be able to go back.

Doesn't the Boxster sound better in some ways since the intake is right behind your ears? Especially apples to apples meaning sport exhaust to sport exhaust.

I know what you mean. Dealer gave me a Cayman S as a service loaner. Oh man. Sweet car.

I was relieved that it does not have sunroof. Since I would require a sunroof, I am not tempted to buy it.

To be honest, the ONLY reason I bought a 911 over a Boxster S is because the 911 has rear seats. I suppose someone could get me to say that the 911 is a "classier" car, but that didn't come into play while I was car shopping. I'd prefer the sharper handling of the Boxster over my 996, but the power and exhaust sound are very secondary to that.

987S = fun to drive, but it's not a 911... there are plenty of cars that are fun to drive, but they lack the attractiveness of 911... i'd personally get an eVo or an sTi over a boxster... but i'd get a 911 over anything else... my $.02... and anything less than the S would be for the wife (at least in my case)...

I had a Boxster inbetween my 996's. Actually it was my daughter that drove it and it was a tiptronic. Basically the interior feel is much the same as the 996. Even with a tiptronic the power felt adequate, but still not quite as strong as the feeling you get from a 996. I loved having the convertible top, but hated the tiptronic. Actually the two trunks were very useful. Not having anywhere to stick stuff behind the seats was a pain at times though. Handling did feel a bit more secure - midengined does make a difference.

All in all, I would always take a 996 or 997 over a Boxster. But you can get some phenomenal deals on Boxsters and for the money saved, you are not giving that much away.

Just saw a 2006 LEFT OVERS Boxster S(zero miles) orig sticker $66,500 (seems high) now asking $52,500 or a 2008 limited edition for $54,000

And the great thing is that the Cayman convertible is actually cheaper than the tin top not the other way round like with the 911.
