Default need help with muffler part# and other muffler question

Ok here goes,

I need to know what car this muffler came from:

996 111 132 53
98 11 gillet
996/13
these should be for the 3.4L motor and have the accordion style supply pipe.

Now the question:

My 01' 996 has the std 3.4L cans but does not have the accordion style supply pipe, is the rest of the insides of these two cans the same?

Thanks,
Oscar,
Akron, Ohio

The confusing part is that this can was supposed to come off of a 3.4L motor.

To me, I think Tim (Gota911) is the resident expert on this mod, and he has helped many before here, and he will probably chime in later to help you too. But FWIW, I have a 2000 C2 cab (3.4l) and I have upgraded my exhausts to an "accordeon" style exhaust pipes without any fitting issue. I believe you can install both type cans on the 3.4l engine. Good luck...
Cheers.

That is the part number for a 3.4 liter car with Tiptronic.
It was replaced by 996.111.132.54

So How can we check the part number from these cans to a certain car.

I know how I am going to do the modification, but it threw me for a loop when I saw the accordion style on what was supposed to be a 3.4 set of cans.

I just checked for you... I guess I am confused as to what you want?
It is (one of many) mufflers for a a 3.4 liter car.

The question I have is that everybody was saying that if it had the accordion style on the supply side of the tube it should have been for a 3.6. That being said these cans have the accordion style but were supposed to be from a 3.4L car.

If they are for a 3.4L car and are the accordion style...are the insides the same as a 3.4 set of cans that don't have the accordion style pipe?

Not sure on insides. Saw a video somewhere on youtube from fabspeed that marches you through the 996 muffler progression, accordian and cut open of the mufflers. I think they said the accordian (3.6) was the same basic design inside. I have 3.6 accordian mufflers with the mod on my 3.4. They fit exactly the same, just bolt on.

I couldn't find the video...anyone have this link?

There were about 3 or 4 different muffler designs used on the 3.4 liter cars - and another couple used on the 3.6 liter cars. There is no reason you can't use a 3.6 liter muffler on a 3.4 liter car. You just should not do the reverse.

I just didn't know that they had made the accordion type on the 3.4 cans. But all the insides on the 3.4 cans should be the same, right?

I don't know - you would have to open them all. I suspect they are all very similar since they were all made to the same Porsche AG spec.

The mufflers on my early 99 had the accordian style tubes. They suffered an internal failure and I replaced them with GHL's which were not specific to the engine size.
