OT: The King is dead, long live the King (E92 M3 content)

NASA already proved if you put a big enough motor on a space shuttle, the brick will fly. Who would have thought Bimmer would need to reprove the theory?
The car in the pics is a little overdone for my taste, but I'm sure it's fast.
Seriously, everyone pretty muched guessed the new M3 would gain some weight. The real disapointment IMHO is the new 135. That could have been a rebirth of the e30/e36 generation of lightweight Bimmers. Too bad...

I am not a vette guy(see through hood) but it should be a great track car 3300 pounds, dry sump, 15 inch rotors carbon-ceramic and Brembos. that and a 1g skid. I look forward to seeing a couple out at our track.

IMHO the E30 and the E36 M3s were what MMotorsports was all about.....the E46 and E90 are bangled and mangled with way too much emphasys on electronic wizardry......and weight and high cost
The E30 M3 was designed and justified by BMWs race effort and this is what BMW needs to get back to....not supercars for the ultra wealthy
yea it looks nice....but at what cost?
no thanks

Couldn't agree with you more, I was really holding high hopes for the 135i but they killed that one too.
However, for those quoting the 3700 lb weight for the M3...this figure includes a 75KG driver (150lbs), luggage (15lbs) and a fuel tank that's 90% full. Several magazines have done real world weight testing that is much closer to the 3500 mark. And while this is still an additional 100+ lbs over the E46 it's not the number that comes along with the initial shock when you see the 3700 published number.
Yes it's still heavy but it's a GT car...and it's pretty light compared to it's competition in that class (C63, RS4, IS-F, etc).
Again, I will own one as a street car...but I'll keep the 996 around for track days and spirited weekend driving.

Cost of doing business in the automotive world today. The cost of paying its employees and having money left over for future development/growth. What's at cost is competing and winning.
I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt here, that you're speaking out of a desire to reflect back on your good car memories dating back to the 90s aka nostalgia.
Again, I love this M3 and would love to have one, but just like with a lot of women in my life, timing is off. I got a taste of the 911 and like AudiOn28s, I need more of a car that's a weekend driver (911+) than a fast/capable grand tourer that is the E92 M3.
