I went to get my 99' an emission test and this is what came up when the test was over. Because of this, my car has failed the emission test cause' this throws the check engine light to be on. Has anyone seen this before or know of a quick fix for this problem? The car is running fine but I have to pass this emission test t keep her on the road. I'm taking my car to the shop after the new year but it would be nice to know what Im dealing with here.

I have tried to reset the computer by unplugging the battery but it comes back on as soon as I drive it.

A check engine light will always cause you to fail an inspection, why did you take it in with a light on?

What are the codes that are pulled from the computer?

I took it to a shop where a friend was working just to see what was causing the check engine to stay on. The code that it threw is P0446. Everything checked out except for the catalyst and the oxygen sensor.

If it is a bad CAT it should still be warranted by Porsche. I "think" (not 100% positive) emissions equipment is covered for 8 years.

Vove, it might be time to replace the oxygen sensors if you haven't done so already. You won't believe how expensive those little things are... maybe try cleaning them first just to see if that does the trick to pass inspection?

Have you tried to remove the code with a reader? I know on my car I could erase the code with the reader and get a 100 miles or so before it came back on. Sometimes you can get it through inspection that way, unless their emissions test is picking up the problem out of the exhaust.

erase the code, u can pass the Emission.
the problem may be u have a vacume leak some where. to do the job, the front passage side wheel has to be removed.
should be a small thing.

Yeah, erasing the code will get rid of it long enough to pass emission. I have one of those code readers if you need to use it.

just go to autozone, they will be very happy to lend u the scaner.

The last time I went they wouldn't lend it. An employee would come out to read it but wouldn't delete the code. They used to lend it out. He'd better hope the code doesn't reappear between the deletion and Veif station.

This was the first thing that I did but when I did that, the computer could not read my codes and they made me drive the car until it could be read again. But when it can be read again, the check engine light came back on. In the older days, emission test was done through the exhaust pipe but technology has changed that and the test is done through the car's cpu. Ty.

Hmmmm...vacuum leak. Once the front wheel is removed, what do I check for?

Erasing the code WIILL NOT get you past emissions. Resetting the computer will set several sensors to the "not ready" mode until you have completed a few drive cycles. The tester will see this and tell you to go drive the car a bit more until the are properly set.

in some state, if the cel is not on, they won't even hook up with obo reader.
u need to check the line running from/to your gas tank? i am not a tech, nor a DYI, i happend to see this problem on another's car. that's all i know. best of luck.
