Top Gear Porsche 997 vs BMW M6 vs Aston Martin V8
I found this the other day and thought you guys might also enjoy it. I was impressed by the results. I fear I'm addicted to this show.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and suffer the potential flames but: the current gen of Astons have to be the most perfect examples of automotive design available. I hate to refer to cars as beautiful or gorgeous or pretty but the AM is all of those and more. I can't think of a single car available today that even comes close to the looks of the V8 Vantage or DB9/S.
It's a shame the performance doesn't quite match up to the looks though.

JC is a very anti Porsche guy. Them main reason I think is that he can not do his drifting style of driving. In one of his shows he said the the GT3 does not tolerate fools..... 3 secenods later he crashed. The Aston is a great car. Exit and entry so if my wife and I were gong out to dinner, the Aston would be the car. Same for a drive from Seattle to Portland CA. For an afternoon at the track or winding roads 911

Those guys are great, if anything they are having to much fun. What a job to have.
Alll are dream cars, but as clearly shown though, there is simply no substitute.

I'm glad you guys liked it. I thought the heads up display in the BMW was amusing. I would hate all the computer controlled gadgets. The Aston is gorgeous. I would love to have their job.

The M6 is a beast. ALL of the computer controls are meant to enhance the driving experience...and they do. A six grader could learn to drive one in a couple minutes.

The M6 is extremely ugly; one of the worst BMW efforts ever. And porky overweight. I still remember when Autoweek tested the Cadillac DTS "Luxobarge", as they called it. Shortly thereafter, they tested the 6 cab. It was 100 lbs. HEAVIER than the Caddy! All the electronic crap makes the car feel lighter than it really is when driving up to 7 or 8/10. Then all the sudden as you press it further the obesity begins to shine through. Of course it's very far at the GT end of the sports car-GT spectrum, so it's not really fair to compare it to a Porsche.
Spent last weekend in Miami. I think you see more Astons per mile there than anywhere, and I never get tired of looking at them. It starts with proportioning: the ratios between the front hood and the rear deck, and the greenhouse to the rest of the car. Then you take a close look at the detailing of the external design; it's just so well done. Again, if you compare it to the benchmark of bad design, the BMW 6 series, the differences are outstanding. The BMW has a mishmash of design elements and that truly awful sheet metal seam across the front of the car, like a Pontiac. You'd think they could disguise the hood to front grille transition better like in their E39 or E46 days. Amidst the Ferraris and Astons along Ocean Drive last week, somebody with New York plates drove up in a new M5. The crowd was mortified. There were screams and rampant fear of impending doom. I think I actually heard booing from the sidewalk crowd. (Maybe I exaggerate a little, but the reaction really was funny). Personally, I'd still rather drive the Porsche than either for most applications.

The M5 cost less and is just as fast as the M6. I want a car with back seats or without back seats. The M6 is neither.
