What a transformation. Wood looks good in older english cars but doesn't compliment a newer 996. Nive work!

Yes the shift **** can be replaced in 5 min. jut pop up the base trim and remove the old one with an allen wrench. Then put the new one on the same way. In order to change the handbrake you need to remove the center console. still not that hard.

When I took my old shift **** off, it didn't have an allen screw which held it in place, like the new one that I replaced it with. It just pops off, but requires quite a bit of effort to remove. Not that it was actually difficult, but it is kind of ackward.

I ended up using vice grips to wrap around the base of it (not ON the base, but just below) for more area to grab ahold of before pulling it up. Once the vice grips were on, I used a couple of wrenches underneath to grab ahold of and provide the leverage to pull the whole thing up and off the shaft.

Someone asked about a cheaper version of this shift ****, and I don't think there is a good alternative. This **** is very, very nice and high quality - from the leather stitching to the **** itself, and I would be careful wasting money on a **** that is cheaper.

Thanks. Was actually thinking about the Porsche piece that Carnewal sells. It's a stubbier design, and would replace the more slender oe one that came on my '00. The latter, from what I understand, doesn't have the allen screw. But it is expensive, no doubt about it...

Looks much, much better, especially with the black interior. The wood really only works well with beige and brown interiors, IMHO.

Dark wood can work (as redridge pics show), but the red wood look over black is pretty awful.

I hear you. I never understood the whole wood thing for anything but the pre-74 911s, and even then it isn't my favorite. IMO, your car looks much better now.
