Yes the shift **** can be replaced in 5 min. jut pop up the base trim and remove the old one with an allen wrench. Then put the new one on the same way. In order to change the handbrake you need to remove the center console. still not that hard.

When I took my old shift **** off, it didn't have an allen screw which held it in place, like the new one that I replaced it with. It just pops off, but requires quite a bit of effort to remove. Not that it was actually difficult, but it is kind of ackward.
I ended up using vice grips to wrap around the base of it (not ON the base, but just below) for more area to grab ahold of before pulling it up. Once the vice grips were on, I used a couple of wrenches underneath to grab ahold of and provide the leverage to pull the whole thing up and off the shaft.
Someone asked about a cheaper version of this shift ****, and I don't think there is a good alternative. This **** is very, very nice and high quality - from the leather stitching to the **** itself, and I would be careful wasting money on a **** that is cheaper.
