Battery
I have looked on here for a replacement battery for my 2003 996. It seems the Interstate is the brand of choice but am having trouble locating one for the 996. I have looked on the interstate website and the battery for the '03 996 is either MT-49 or MTP-93.. I have seen numerous posts on here that people are using the MTP-91. i am confused by this. I just want to install the best compatible battery for my car and be able to install without hassle of drilling holes etc. Just slide it in and hook up the vent. Thanks......

If you have the original Moll then look at it to see the amp hour rating. It should be 80 or 70. The 80 amp hour battery is larger than the 70. The Boxster uses both sizes. Not sure about the 996.

I think I have the 91, but I just went to local tire place and they carry Interstate so they looked it up for me. I think it comes down to size and the 91 is smaller than the Moll was. The 93 is larger but I believe it doesn't matter too much and one can use either, its preference. I asked about the larger one, but they didn't have one charged and ready.
I just replaced mine on the weekend as well....went with the OEM one...I know, I know ....over priced for what you get.....but this was my first time and I didn't have confidence in the local auto shop....
Anyways, word of caution....You will noticed that I have posted on Rennlist that I did this and now my key remote won't work (both storge area and main doors/security system)
...not sure if I have to go to the stealer to get everything reset or if I can do it myself as people have suggested....Will have to wait until I get home ....
and Yes I did read the manual.....

Thanks for the replies.. I am finding it impossible to find the Intterstate Batteries in stock anywhere. Went on the interstate website and have check 10 places already nearby and none carry it. I did call Pep Boys about the Bosch battery i read on here but am also confused as to which model to use on this one. They have a size 48 and a size 49 battery, on this sight i see people talking about the Bosch group type 94? Is this just a case of dyslexia?

Very simple. Very cheap.
If you install it yourself, be sure you get the vent tube that is supposed to accompany the battery. They seem to disappear, and I have heard some people say that an installer failed to fit a vent tube.
Update: I just looked at my post from over on Renntech. I bought a Group 48, and the battery maintainer was $5.

I am finding it impossible to find the Interstate Batteries in my area in stock. Where did u guys find them? Also, i have a 2003 and the interstate website recommends the MTP-93 which has 850 Cold start Amps but weighs 45 lbs. I see that a 1999-2001 recommended battery is the MTP-91 which has 700 Cold start Amps and weighs 36lbs. I cant find how much the stock Moll battery has in terms of cranking power but from what I've read its not great. I would much rather have the smaller, lighter battery but not sure if its a mistake.
I can get hte Bosch group 48 or 49 batteries at Pep Boys for $90 but no nothing about them. Anyone know how they compare to the interstate battery and in terms of dimensions, weight and cranking amps? Thanks, I want to ensure I'm buying the right battery and not regret this later..
