Default Porsche OEM Carbon Trim Construction?

Does anyone know how the factory Porsche carbon trim pieces are constructed? Do they laminate carbon to the base plastic part, or do they mold the carbon laminate on a seperate tool and use it as a "stand alone" piece (so the installed part is just the carbon laminate)?

Only a few parts are full carbon. Like the door sills.

The part is formed then placed in an auto-clave for curing. When cured it is then laminated to the plastic part. This is why they delaminate and peel and crack. Ask me how I know?

I just bought a 996TT with a fairly extensive CF interior that is listed on the Porsche option build sheet. Are you saying that the CF parts that Porsche installs is subject to cracking and peeling at some point? Is this condition related to the interior being exposed to the sun/heat....or is it just a matter of the bonding failing due to age? Has anyone experienced CF failure during the time the CPO warranty is in effect? Or is this something that usually happens down the road after the warranty runs out.?? I think the CF looks great with the black interior, but if this is going to be a point of failure, then I might start looking for leather surrounds.

Chuck, regarding the cause, I am assuming it is due to heat exposure/cycling. The CTE (coeff. of thermal expansion) of the plastic core part is much greater than the CTE of the composite (almost 0). This mismatch will put stress on the bond as the temperature is increased (or decreased). I would think that the system was designed to survive these cycles, but who knows. Age shouldn't have a huge effect.

As I remember, the insturment part is laminated to the origional plastic.
Ive had all the parts porsche makes for 3 yrs, here in Fla. No problem.
BUT I also take care of my car. Wash, polish, wax. etc. So I also cover the dash and wheel with a towel, or dash cover when its going to be out in the sun all day. The interior regularly gets to the 120 range. So anything can and will cook. Ive seen 03 and 04 cars with all the leather and vinyl bleached and cracked , just from being in the sun.
So they should have taken care of it better.
