Default Oil Leak Under Tailpipe?

Hello,

This morning, I noticed a small puddle of oil on the ground directly beneath my driver's side tailpipe. It's definitely oil and it looks like it's coming from something directly above the tailpipe as some of the drips are coming down the chrome pipes.

Does anyone know what is leaking??

Thanks in advance!

Have replaced your plug seals recently? Same thing happened to mine.

Plug seals? I doubt it. I'm mechanically illiterate.

Is this something serious? I have a DE event @SIR in 2 days. Should I cancel?

Thanks.

I don't think you have to cancel. It's just a leaky seal. If you have a indy or dealer that could fit you in that is a fairly quick job.

Very welcome. If you wait ilntu after the event to get it fixed, just keep an eye on your oil levels since you will be operating the car at higher levels. Still, can't imagine how you could be losing more than a few drops from where it is coming from. To be sure though, you might want to jack up the car, remove the rear wheels and look at both spark plug banks to see if that is in fact where you leak is coming from.

There is a chance though this could also be your oil separator which you do NOT want to be out on the track with if it's ready to blow. If that goes you will lose alot of oil. I had that actually happen at the track and I immediately ended my weekend while it was still just a leak.

Bottom line? At least try to confirm the source. Plugs? Track safe. Separator? No go.

Oil dripping on yur chrome tips could be from the motor mounts. I had a puddle about the size of a CD-ROM from the drivers side. Hasn't leaked any more but it may be dry by now. Look under the car ansd see if it is dripping from the tip of the bolt.

Here are a couple of pics from underneath the car. The first picture shows the area leaking. The second picture shows the drips I collected.

looking at your tips it looks like coolant looks green on the pics . Hard to believe that's from a seal where the plugs from. Howeve i thing you would know the difference between coolant and oil.

Thats looks like a classic coolant tank leak.

Yea, my bad. The color of the coolant on my garage floor made me think it was oil, but it does look like I'm leaking coolant now.

Damn, now you have 2 projects to do!

1. Coolant tank
2. Oil leak (wherever it's coming from)

You don't want your coolant tank to go, and it is about to since it is in it's "leaking" stage. That goes at the track and you get coolant on your rear tires and you'll be fixing more than just a tank.

The oil really needs to be isolated. By the way, did you just change your oil? It looks brand new
