I'd vote for a 3.6L with a supercharger.

It wont be that hard at all.....a late model 3.6L car is VERY similar to a 997...Call FVD in Florida, they have dropped 3.8Ls in 996s so they know what you need.

It will be a very simple conversion. Putting the 3.6 into my '99 boxster was quite a bit more involved. With your car it will be plug and play, essentially just need a new program in the DME. That x51 3.6 that you mentioned is going in my boxster to replace the standard 3.6. I passed on that modified 3.8 as they wanted the same price as a factory X51 with warranty when I spoke with them. The price has come down quite a bit on it now that makes it worth the money, even without a warranty.

Todd
It sure can be a small world at times! I missed the x51 by less than a week, you're lucky you put a deposit on it. You're boxster is gone fly!Good luck with the install.

That x51 was going for 10K. Not sure what it ended up going for. By the time I called it was gone. Congrats to Todd.

I am still looking for a 3.6 or 3.8 for my car...possibly.

The best price I found on a brand new 3.6 X51 was $8550 + $2600 core charge if you don't have an X51 to send Porsche back. An X51 3.8 is actually less at $8400 but the core is $5500 if you don't have one to send back.

A 3.6 Boxster S would be a lot of fun...

First, you will find this to be a lot of money for just 35 hp. Selling your C4S and going to even an X51 996 C2 would have better performance. Alternatively, you will find an EVOMS supercharger to be a far cheaper and much greater perfromance upgrade than the 3.8l upgrade.
