Default EVO S/C $4999.

Hi guys. I saw this on the San Francisco Craigslist. I don't know the seller, but the price looks great....I would guess it came from Sharkwerks. It is for a 2002 to 2004, otherwise, it would be in my garage. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/pts/398247213.html

95993, the ad says for a 2002 to a 2004 unless I'm reading it wrong. "Evolution Motor Sports Super Charger for 2002-2004 Porsche 996" I previously called EVO about another S/C for a 3.6 engine....the differing parts to make it work on the 3.4 make it cost prohibitive.

"Super Charger for 1999-2004 Porsche 996 "

Interestingly, no mention of the fact that it won't pass the CA smog test.

What am I missing? "Evolution Motor Sports Super Charger for 2002-2004 Porsche 996
Complete Hardware Kit including Air to Water intercooler with open front air dam, Fuel Injectors, and upgraded hoses. -- Price--$4999.00" I'm actually not trying to be a smart ***...Am I pulling up a different version of the ad? Obviously several people are seeing the 99 part, I'm not. The S/c kit for the 3.4 and 3.6 are not the same.
The CA smog part is definately a big negative.

It's possible that it was edited and you have the original ad cached on your PC (or something to that effect, I'm not an IT guy). Pull up the link and try hitting "refresh" on your browser.

the EVO M/S supercharger runs for like $11k. It is actually developed by VF Engineering in Socal. I have been to VF and can say that I was very impressed by their facility. I would just confirm the completeness of the kit. keep in mind that the install usually takes about 3 days.

What do California owners of supercharged cars do to pass the smog test? This is interesting, but I would hate to uninstall it every time I had a smog test.....

bk12, I used to have a car that was questionable regarding smog legality...there are shops that will not look too closely if you are a friend or have the right recommendation. It was not much fun to have to worry about. It would be nice if EVO obtained the CARB exemption that they have claimed to be in the process of obtaining for years (as quoted in their Excellence magazine article).

mfletch, it sez "1999-2004" or your just trying to fool yourself so that you dont have to buy it ... If your thinking about it, I would also ask about the dme software (GIAC)? Im sure that the programming reflects ones' VIN #, esp that your is a tip. It might be an extra $1K from GIAC. Something to think about.

Redridge, I'm not very computer literate...when I pull it up on my laptyop it shows 02-04...when I pull it up on the desktop, it's 99-04. I previously considered purchasing a later model (02-04) S/C for my 996. EVO told me that the parts to convert would exceed $2,000.
Sharkey also told me that the S/C wouldn't work at all on my car because of the third radiator for the S/C and tip needing to occupy the same space.
My third and final concern, is the Ca smog issue. Obviously, I'm conflicted over the S/C issue. Other than those three concerns, I have wifey talked into letting me buy another Portsche project car. I missed an 04 GT3 last week by about $300.
I'm jealous every time I see your beautiful car.

hey mark... it could be made to work but it wouldn't be pretty and it was never designed to work like that;( Also I'm not 100% on the software for the tip. The price for that kit is a good one though and I know the owner (he just bought a tubo cab etc..) and all the parts are there. You'd need a different pulley though (for a little more boost). The smog issue is well a very big issue indeed. Yes it will pass the emissions part but there's no CARB number and you're unlikely to get by on visual.... that's for sure.
