Default Air conditioner shut-down noise - normal or aby-normal?

Just to preface this, I've been doing a search for the past 45 min on this issue and haven't found anything related (maybe it's not really a problem and is normal - or my search skills need some tunin').

I've got an '02 Targa, and during the high summer heat in L.A., tend to use the A/C a bit. It blows crispy cold and works great overall, but upon shutting down the engine after the A/C's been on, I get a loud high-pitched whine that emanates from what seems to be the central and right-sided parts of the dashboard and from above the glovebox. This lasts for about 5-10 seconds, and subsides spontaneously. The noise does not occur when the A/C has not been running. Anybody else experience this? Seems like such an unsexy sound for the sexy beast that she is.

My '01 Boxster made a similar noise. In 5 years of ownership, the AC always worked wih no problems. So I just assumed it was "normal." My '03 C4S does not make that sound.

Mine does make that sound after running the air once in a while - like the vents are re-setting or something. Mine is not loud though, can just barely hear it.

Are you saying that I put an abnormal brain into a seven and a half foot long, fifty-four inch wide GORILLA?

Ah, good call.

They normally make that "water traveling through a pipe sound", or when your toilet is almost full of water and the valve is slowly closing off the water.

Thanks for the input, guys. Somewhat comforting to know I'm not the only one... but probably the one with the LOUDEST sound. If it is the expansion valve, I wonder if it can be replaced easily to alleviate the problem.

I know this is an old thread...but did anybody figure this out?
I get the same noise....

Doesn't happen everytime, but I don't really enjoy hearing my P-car moan after a shutdown .
