Default More Winter stuff: Pirelli Snowsport 240s VS. BLIZZAK LM25 XL

Hi all.....I know there are a bunch of threads with winter setups....but I'm deciding between 2 different tires to use. Was wondering if anyone has experience with both brands.

I have a C4S.....and plan on using this car in the snow. From what I've researched, it's damn good in the winter. Just spoke with Damon @ Tirerack....real nice guy, very informative. Anyhow, he suggests that if I want dedicated winter wheels without spending a ton, I can get OEM twist "look", but has me going 18" x 8's and 10's, which seems to be better in snow. Spacers will make the car look stock. I'd be running 225/40/18's in front and 265/35/18 on the rears.

Sooooo.....what tire would you go with? I think they are very similar in cost. I know Porshce recommend's the Pirelli, but I want to make this decision based PURELY ON PERFORMANCE.

Thanks in advance,
Jon

I am running 265/35VR18 and 225/40VR18 Pirelli Winter 240 SnowSports on OEM C4S wheels.
The wheel rim sticks out about 2mm on the rears.

These past 4 winter seasons I've wen't through 1 sets of rears and are still on the same set of fronts.

First set of rears lasted 19,000 km but were not good for winter at about 13,000 km. I was able to stretch it out longer because of the dry roads and a mild winter.
I have 20,000 km on the front tires and they are about 60-65% still left on them.

No complaints with them.

I put my p-car into hibernation for the winter. But I do run LM25s on my CLK - rear wheel drive, too much torque, etc. With the Blizzaks on I had no problems ... great on ice and in snow. Good cornering, stable and smooth on highways particularly for a winter tire up to ahhh ... the speed limit
Haven't used the Pirellis so can't help there.
Lots of good reviews on the Tire Rack website.

I had Pirelli's and Blizzaks on my Audi S6 Avant, and thought the Pirellis were a great all around winter tire. In the deep snow, I preferred the Blizzaks. The Audi folks swear by Hakka's, although I doubt you can get them in the right size. For the 996, I have the Blizzaks.

Damon@tirerack is often quoted on this forum but one of his associates was recommending the Pirelli's (N) 225/265 18" for my C4s. Together with their imported wheels, mounted and balanced for $2240 delivered.

If someone has a lightly used setup in one of those half-price specials in the NY-Ct area, please PM me.

Same here....that's about the price quote I got as well....for the Sport Edition Cup3 wheels with rubber too...they look just like twists. But, I wouldn't mind getting a full newly mounted set from Damon. I asked Damon if he had my car, which tire would he choose, he indicated Blizzaks. But very close in performance.

Used Blizzak LM25's on my C2 for 3 years (17 inch though on Porsche wheels). No complaints. Good in wet, dry, snow and ice.

I am thinking about the selling the set up b/c I sold the car and I don't like they look on the CS I replaced the 996 with. If anyone is interested let me know.

michelin pilot alpin 2
I run them on 17 and often forget my car is on winter tires in the dry in winter. Impecable in the snow too. They are available in H 210kmh or V 240kmh speed ratings.

I run ps2 on 18 for summer, the pa2 on 17 are surprinsing for a winter tire in direct comparison.

I am running Mich Pilot Alpins in 18's and they do just fine. A friend of mine runs the Pirelli Snowsport 240s on his turbo and has no problems.

I run Pirelli Snowsport 240s, great tires for winter use. The car handles better than most SUVs in winter and you can pretty much go anywhere. The only limitation is really deep snow; the car is too low and will high-center itself.

Have used Blizzaks on mutiple Porsches and a few Audis. They stick in the the snow and work great in the dry. Even with a C2 there is plenty of traction in the snow.
