Smile muffler bypass done--sh*t eatingring grin!

bought take off 3.6l mufflers, $ 20 worth of ss pipe and took it to local muffler shop here in ct, who actually still does custom bending and welding.
he did meticulous job,- and now: what a raspy, 997 style sound.!! better than my old 964.

Drove it so hard th first tank of gas, fuel mileage dropped by 5mpg.

doug, the muffler guy want to offer a service for p car owners, where he sends out upgraded muffler with core charge.
is this a biz? what's it worth?
paid 150 for cutting welding, (2 hrs) plus 50.00 for r&r on the mufflers, which be can be done in less than an hour at home.
Worth it even with paying top dollar for like new mufflers from an indy pcar shop,(450).
Best upgrade since my Ajay 3 spoke a/b steering wheel.

The 3.4 mufflers aren't set up for this type of mod? I can't remember if this was discussed before. I searched muffler topics, but there's sooooooooooooo many of them

Congratulations on doing the MKII mod to the 3.6L mufflers. Do you have a 3.4L or 3.6L engine?

Yes doing the MKII Mod to the 3.4L isn't worth it from my research and understanding. But for those of us with 3.4L engines, installing a set of 3.6L MKII mufflers is the least expensive exhaust change to do to give the car a better sound.

So if your indy muffler place wants to do an exchange where the owner sends in 3.4L mufflers and they get back 3.6L mufflers, I am sure that will work

True to Stevens point. Not sure what the market is for 3.4 cans, but to me similar too amber headlights. Low demand. Either aftermarket or 3.6 is the way to go!

This is the sport exhaust mod NOT the muffler bypass. A muffler bypass is just that, you bypass the mufflers with a pipe either right off the headers or after the cats.

If you really want a **** eating grin, then try the REAL muffler bypass. That is a real race car sounds

i have a 3.4, but based on comments here i bought take off 3.6 cans.
i do have neighbors, so i have the exact volume and sound that i want.
it's a great mod, cheap, with huge payback in feel good.

next i am putting on the big red gt3 front brakes that i bought for 1200, and am looking for rears.
i did the calcs,
if i can get all in for 3k or so, based on the number of times a day i "look" at the car it will cost $0.35 a happy look.
,
how is that for rationalization on blowing money??

i agree on the need for 3.6 cans.
he needs a starter pair from someone who upgraded to fabspeed or other high end exhaust, to make it work.
anyone have 3.6's for doug, he is a good guy and will pay for them

Dell yep you are correct that this mod is not a 'bypass' for the mufflers, just a bypass on the muffler.

Oh and do I know the difference between my mod and a bypass pipe, as I followed a '04 GT3 with the bypass last weekend and when we went through a motorway overpass and he revved it up, it was louder than my stereo and I had my Death Metal blasting too. Of course his DB rating is too high for the street and even some tracks but it is a as you say a real race car sound (cup car).

Absolutely and I would love to have the sound, but it's not great for the neighbourhood though
