Default Power slide at 70 mph (Update#1)

Well yesterday on my way to work A Range Rover went from 70 to 0 as fast as he could. I had to swerve into the center median lane to avoide hitting him. The car fishtailed like crazy for about a half a mile till I got it under control. The good news in that 7' wide narrow space I managed to not hit anyone. But on 6th correction from sliding I managed to hit the drivers rear rim on the concrete divider. This gauged the heck out of the rim and I have no idea what other damage to the suspension. If I was in any other car I do not think I could have recovered from that slide. I am currently awaiting a report from Motor Werks in Barrington to see if I have damaged the suspension. Pics and an update tonight.... The worst part is I have been gone for 6 months and this was the 2nd time I drove her since I have been back. Anyone got a spare rear 18x10???

Reid - sorry to hear that, but glad it was not worse. Is the wheel repairable? What wheels are on your car? You might want to check with Wheel Enhancement to see if they have a matching rear wheel.

Here are the wheels not sure what they are called. Unrepairable rim looks like a dog nawed on it....

Reid,
Glad you saved yourself and the car.

Your wheels are probably:
18" "Turbo Look", 10x18 65et, part # 993 362 140 04
a very common factory wheel.

Should be plenty on the used market should you want to get a used one re-finished.

not to play devils advocate, but how fast were you going that it took so long to stop? how far were you from the Rover that you needed to get so aggresive on the brakes and did you have to steer to avoid it? What cause the Rover to stop so abruptly?

Reid,

I might just have one... give me a call or shoot me an e-mail. I'll look in the garage tonight. I'm sure I have one front and one rear left over from my 2001.

Glad you're ok. Hey as bad as it is, if it's just the wheel that got damaged, I consider yourself lucky. Hopefully that's all it is and once you replace the wheel, the whole thing will be a a distant memory.

Not snowing, they were driving on an ice pond. That sucks about the wheel, as always look to ebay to curb your needs.

OK probibly not a 1/2 a mile but it felt like for ever. I was going 70 and threw it into the shoulder which started the slide. No water just seemed like the traction control kept fightting me..

OK Rob, I have to ask.... why would you have 1 front and 1 rear wheel "left over" from your 2001? Were you thinking of making a Porsche-cycle?

He was ridding the car in front of him but I could not see that. I was 2 car lenghts away and I guess I was just zoning out not paying attention and when I looked up he was 3 feet from me.

Hit a curb on the drivers side to avoid an asslcown that was probably trying to clip his toenails while taking a sharp turn... chewed up both wheels... pulled the Turbo Twist rims off and put a set of new rims and tires on the car.

I kept the rims with plans to build an entire 996 our of parts, plan stalled at the rims but you know, dreams die hard...

im actully selling two rear replica turbo twist 18x10 in rims... just cause of what happened ill give you both for 200 bucks and im near your area so ill drop it off wherever. they are brand new without tires but i work at discount tires so i can get you a good discount on some new tires or put your old ones on no charge. sorry about what happened but it sound like it most of looked really james bond sliding around the range rover ... at least you didn't destroy any body panels or get hurt that all that matters. o and pics of the rims can be found here https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/354745-rims-for-sale.html
