Default Brake Light Replacement

Hi All

I found that one of my main brake light bulbs were burned out and both secondary lights (third brake light and spoiler brake light) are apparently burned out.

I easily replaced the main bulb in the tail light assembly, but, the others seem more difficult than they should be. I did read the manual and the instructions to ease the body over the 6 retainers don't seem to work. The plastic is very brittle and breaks easily.

Am I missing some trick?

Does anyone have an idea on the cost to replace the entire assembly (since I will probably break them).

Thanks for the help.

what year? You can replace the third brake lights with LED strips from ebay for $99 each. There are 7 bulbs, not LEDs in the stock third brake lights. It is very unlikely that all 14 are burned out.

On 02+( don't know if 02- are different, the right end of the brake light will pop off and then there is a locking mechanism. Turn it, not sure which way, but what ever way it will turn with a screwdriver then pull the assembly out. Replace the bulbs with the correct size and wattage.

The owner's manual shows how to replace bulbs in the 3rd brake light.

Thanks guys.

The car is a 99 C2.

I was able to remove the assembly from the car, but taking it apart to get access to the bulb(s) is the problem.

If there is more than one bulb as you say, then it must be something else.

Thanks again.
