Some cars that came with CD changers had cassette players in-dash just behind the faceplate. I recally my father's 2000 C4 cab having that exact feature.

All this talk about shelves has me thinking about removing my CD holder and putting in the shelf.

Go for it!

I think I'm going to get a Sirius reciever mount for in that slot. Anything is more functional than that CD holder.

Edward, you have been on Rennlins for almost 3 years and you haven't replaced your CD holder? The "mod statute of limitation" is running out on you, so you need get that shelf in ASAP!

Seriously, the shelf is much more functional than the CD holder and it looks better, too.

Tim, when you mentioned 3 years, I almost fell over. It feels like I just started using Rennlist yesterday. Love this place.

Anyway, here's the story on the CD holder: I still sort of use it even though I've had an mp3 wired for ages now. I still think that CDs sound better. But, more honestly, I bought a CD holder surround from MACarbon a year or two back and think it looks good. If I get rid of the holder, it's sort of like throwing away that purchase. But you're right, I really do envy everyone who has a shelf. Would make juggling a bunch of items in the car a lot easier, especially since I don't have a glove compartment. I'll get around to getting the shelf from MACarbon soon.

Perhaps I am missing something, but after replacing the cd holder with a cubby does it not look silly to have two cubbys, one on top of the other?

No, it looks fine, at least a lot better than the CD or Cassette holders.

I thought it looked better (cleaner) with the second cubby.

I think it looks fine, my AC control is in the lower cubby so it wont be an issue but I would like the extra storage.

Yeah, I have the digital surround controller in the bottom half of the center console so I'll only have one shelf also, when I get around to installing it.
