can you trust the same dealer that is selling it to you? they want to charge me $214 to do a used car check. that the service department says they did already but have no record? They call it a safety inspection? is this the same as a ppi? they told me they don't check compresion unless the check engine light is on? I just wanted to know if paul miller porsche dealer in NJ is trustworthy or anyone has any experience with them? thanks mike

No, you can't trust them to do a PPI. Take it to a Porsche dealer or Porsche service center. Spend about $200 and get a full 150 point inspection.

You'll spend closer to $300 - make sure you do a compression/leakdown on the 3.6.

Here's a link to the northern new jeresey pca site. Look in their links for some very reputable shops in the area.

Click on the "our friends" link on the left side.

Best of luck,

The service center at Ray Catena Porsche in Edison NJ is maybe the best I have ever seen.
Join the Porsche Club of America and I believe they'll give you a discount if you provide a membership car or number.
I saw a McLaren SLR, Carrera GT and some Maserati Gran SPort in the garage on my last visit.
They were nice enough to call me to provide me with my radio code even though I didn't buy the Porsche there.
They are open Saturdays and have a waiting area that you have to see to fully appreciate. And they wash your car and provide beverages and sandwiches.

Don't skimp on the PPI. That's a big purchase you are making. If they find anything wrong you can use those needed repairs to negotiate a lower price. The fact that you were willing to lay down some cayyysh (as Artie Lange says) for a PPI tells the seller you are serious and that always gets their attention.
p.s.
Talk to the service manager about an extended warranty if its still available for your 2002. And they have a decent price for alignments as far as Porsche dealerships go...

I just bought a C4s in Boulder from an indeprndent dealer. I had the local Porsche Dealership (Porsche of Boulder) do a PPI and it cost $180. It was a 150 Point inspection and they provided me with a written report.

Yeah, do the PPI. I just bought a 2002 C4S from an independent in Chicago. I had a Porsche dealer (Barrington) do the PPI, then for the things they found wrong with the car (all small items), I got the seller to fix them all. It worked out great for me. They confirmed the car was a good one, and I got new horn, pollen filter, tires and alignment.
