Default O.K....somebody please talk me out of this wing

I have read all the posts about the problems with the fiberglass body kits, the amount of prep they require, etc... However, might this wing on ebay (link below) be at a low enough price point to justify some extra install expense, or am I just asking for trouble. I had previously resolved to go with oem, or a high quality aftermarket piece such as something from MAShaw, but dang, this thing is priced with a buy it now of $520. What do you guys think (I've also seen this vendor with the gt3 MKI wing for around $600.

I agree that anything other than oem is asking for trouble with something like a bumper, which may crack upon contact with debris, curbs, etc..., but do you think I could get away with a cheapo wing? Any input from those with actual experience with cheap wings would be great. Scott.

Scott - if it dosen't work out on your car, you could always sell it to Lake Havesu City. I understand they are looking for an extra bucket to dredge the lake! That wing would do the job for them if they turn it up-side-down!

There... did that help!

Make sure they're videotaping when it comes flying off at the track. That will be cool!

C'mon guys, as pointed out above, the fitment and quality is "A-1." I think I like the MKI wing better too. thanks for the advice.

I have that OEM wing on my car. It is the Carrera wing and I installed it myself after I had it painted. The number of screws, bolts, wiring harness, block off plate......were quite amazing. A lot of pieces! I would be shocked if these guys sent you all the hardware required to do this job...not even getting into the quality of the glass. The Porsche tech paper on installation also stressed the proper torque on the securing bolts with loctite which this piece may not even be able to handle?

I found mine at a deep discount from msroadrace.com or on EBay. Not $600 but the real thing. I would not chance it.

OEM here too (check the avatar!)..I think you should buy from a reputable source. There are more than enough horror stories on these boards with bad CHEAP wings...

visit a site sponsor and you wont/cant go wrong.

The wing is to small in my opinion, just go RUF and forget about it.

You want to be talked out of it? Well how about this...it's ugly. And the fact that THEY describe it as A-1 doesn't mean much....it's merely self-promotion at best, and lying at worst.

Does this help?

Scott, you have a beautiful car. Don't spoil it with cheap aftermarket body parts. Save the money for your RSS plenum, you won't regret it. When you have done all the performance mods that you want, then save up for oem body parts. I have seen some great deals on oem GT-3 mk1 body parts. Check this link https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...dge...redridge has the coolest 996 I have ever seen... Mk1 GT-3 bodykit with an EVO S/C...he is pulling 11.79 (before the plenum) in the 1/4 mile.

Did you read the feedbacks this seller received? Spend a few bucks more for a reputable wing and save yourself a lot of hassle.
