I'm not a big fan of paying a premium for a super low mileage car which you will only depreciate out quickly if you drive it. So I would opt for a 30K or so mile car--maybe a dealer trade, Porsche certified, with records.
I was looking at a Porsche certified 01 996 C4 coupe with 27K miles which my dealer was offering me for $45K.The 2 year warranty certification is worth about $2K. It drove well, but had an RMS replacement after just 27K miles. I was a bit concerned about that issue. I chose, instead, an '03 Boxster with 30K miles, which was also certified, drove the back roads about as well, and was a lot cheaper. It was a better deal, since the car had been bought new at the dealer and traded there for a new 986. A one owner, well-cared for car they didn't have much money into.
I think the safest way to buy these cars is Porsche certified from a good dealership. They'll give you a good deal depending on how much money they have put into the car.

I'm also curious to hear about the moves to trade your car - what's going on Tim? Trading up or out?

I think this forum is responsible for driving the prices DOWN on our cars!

A low milage car is low on wear and tear, but cars age, even when they're not used.... hose and belt fatigue is significant, maybe even worse on a car that's not used.
Taking a p-car off the showroom floor and not using it doesn't make it immune to depreciation.
A used car is better than an unused older car every time - it has had the kinks worked out, it has been worn in, you know it's strengths and weaknesses.
Show me any car (with the exception of an exotic) that you'd expect to hold it's value after 8 years.
