Talking RSS PLENUM INSTALLED...0-60 TIMES

I just received and installed my new RSS plenum. I couldn't be happier! My car is a 1999 Tiptronic 996 with Billy boat headers & mufflers, and a EVO cold air induction system. My best 0-60 time prior to the plenum was 5.00. After the plenum install, my best time is 4.76! What more car I say?
It took me less than one hour to install and knocked almost 1/4 second off my 0-60 time. It cost me less than $800. It doesn't get much better than that.

Attached are some pictures of the install. I also am including the two before and two after pictures of my G-tech timer. I put my transmission in manual (first gear) and power braked it (2,000 rpms) prior to releasing it. I shifted to automatic as soon as I took off.

What mods do you have? Is your car a stick? I would expect a stick to be significantly faster with the same mods. A stick was originally about 1 second faster 0-60 than a tip. Yours sure looks faster. I love the aerokit & wheels.

You can test a car 0 -60 10 times in a row and get 10 different times as much as 0.50 second apart. That test does not prove or dispprove any gain.

Outstanding improvement!

How'd you get the plenum for less than $800? The recent group buy was $765 and with CA sales tax is $825, give of take, w/o shipping.

Not with a Tiptronic or Auto. They tend to be the best at bracket racing.

slaaw, I was not counting tax or shipping. In my excitement...I forgot.

1999Porsche911, I respectfully disagree. Prior to the plenum, I could not get below 5.00 to save my life. With a tiptronic, the times are very consistent. If we were talking about a six speed, it might be different.
My buddy that bought my 420hp fox body Saleen Mustang has ripped off a 4.0 second 0-60 time. It was very difficult to get consistent times in that car due to traction....it spins the tires through third gear.

YES, even with a TIP or automatic. A 0-60 time has too many variables that effect it. Probably the biggest behing the diffence in pressing the stop watch. An in the case of GPS, abrupt movement of the car. Then you also have road conditions, tire temperatures, engine temperature, air temperature, transmission componant temperature etc, etc, etc.

Bracket racing is not for 0 - 60.

Congrats Mark,
That is a GREAT time for a 99 tip! I will add my 2 cents to the whole "consistent 0-60 time" debate. I too have a 99 tip, only mods are a k & N air filter and pse mod 3.6 liter exhaust cans. I could do 10 pulls in a row with my g-tech, and I would wager a small fortune that, throwing out the fastest and the slowest times, the remaining 8 times would all be within 1-2 tenths of a second. I know this because I have tried repeatedly to beat my 0-60 best of 5.41 seconds, and try as I might, I just can't do it, and my times are always very, very close (i.e, within two tenths).

So I have to believe that using a g-tech (assuming similar air conditions, same road and wind conditions, etc...) is a pretty darn good way to measure the impact of a particular modificaiton, even if the actual time given by the g-tech is not 100% accurate. Thus, it may be that in actuality, mark pulled a 4.9, but the bottom line is that I believe it is safe to assume he realized a pretty good improvement from the plenum (and the rest of his mods, for that matter, given how much faster his car is than my "lightly" modded tiptronic).

Good job Mark!

Mark: You're nothing but a plenum *****.....and now you've made me one. My reputation is ruined...and after all that nay-sayer stuff I posted regarding "Yeah but...." And what did it come to? There's a new plenum sitting on the counter waiting for an install and dyno.

Since you're in the law enforcement trade....what's the Penal Code section for that there unlawful solicitation stuff?

Mark,
I've got a question for you. Why, after you take off in manual mode in first, do you shift it back to automatic? I have always let it sit in manual and just let the computer shift when it approaches redline. Will the car shift later in automatic versus letting the computer shift in manual mode? If it does, I'll be excited to g-tech my car trying your method.
