It's that time again! Hermina and I will be heading off tomorrow afternoon for Sunday's 20th running of the Silver State Classic. I've acquired a pair of race suits, so we can now have a shot at averaging 135 mph, which will allow us to hit a maximum of 165. That's about 20 mph faster than I've ever driven, so I'm looking forward to a new experience
It's definitely time some more Pcar drivers came along, but we'll try to maintain May's 100% Porsche podium record!

Fantastic job Simon!!! Every year we had several entrants from the LV region PCA chapter enter the event and they would always do well. I'll have to check out the results when they post and see if any of my old Porsche club buddies did well. We don't have anything like that out here on the west coast but we do have they best road courses you cold ever hope to drive!

Wow, in a little over a year since I have been away these people I knew that participated from Vegas has changed! I only recognized one person and their result doesn't surprise me (poor result).
Great job Simon

Congrat's Simon...maybe one day I will finish my Mustang and compete, would be in the higher end classes though.
BTW...I remember my days drag racing at Sears Point on Wednesday nights. This guy would show-up in a Station Wagon (not in great shape - in other words not built for the strip, small block chevy and an auto) every Wednesday and dial-in at 16.8 and run that consistently on each run and usually walked away with the trophy and money at the end of the night while others dialed in a lot lower and were eliminated. I guess I am putting this with the Saturn runner and that is it's not what you brung but what you can do with it that counts

Richard's spirit in his Saturn is great. My other favorite contestant is Charlie Friend, who regularly runs his 1965 Corvair in the 160 class. I have no clue what's underneath the ugly red primer, but it definitely works!
I hope you get the Mustang finished and dialed in for a trip to Ely. I'd love to see it in action.

Time to resurrect an old thread: we had a very good Pcar turnout at the NORC on 5/17, including a gorgeous GT3RS and a GT2. Tim and Cheryl won their 160mph class in the monstrous 928-based missile. and there were two other Pcar podiums.
As for me? I was driving my fiancee's stock automatic 2000 Honda Civic in the 105mph class (Cayman on the wrong coast, etc, etc). I discovered that the Civic will eventually reach 111mph in 3 at 7300rpm (redline at 7k ) and that D is such a tall overdrive that the revs drop to 4000rpm and speed decays on any but the steepest downhill section. My foot didn't come off the gas for the first 70 miles! Still, we must have been doing something right because we won our class thanks to my fiancee's fabulous navigation, just beating an Aston Vantage!

This Corvair from hell owned by Charlie Friend of Alamogordo, New Mexico, features an all-C4 Corvette suspension, a 406-inch Mouse for motivation, and a Porsche 930 turbo transaxle. It posted an average speed of 166 mph.

So, it's part Porsche too...

Sorry if this is a repost, but I got curious about this Corvair and Googled it:

Well, it's only a 2500 mile drive The day after the race, Hermina and I continued her relocation to Delaware by driving the laden Civic through AZ,UT, CO, WY, SD, MN, MI, OH, PA to my my place. It took us 7 days, and a lot of good eating!
I'm seriously considering shipping the Cayman to Nevada in September or next May, flying in for the race, then doing another week-long road trip to come home.
