Assuming it's the same as in the US - don't take it to the shop they recommend (unless you know it really is the best), but take it to the best darn place you can find.

That's not even close to being totalled, Porsche front ends are quite resilient and easy to repair since there are no real mechanicals.

Unless the driveshaft is messed up or there is serious suspension damage...

Definite frame damage though. You may be able to get diminished value compensation from the insurance company... but thats quite a fiasco to sort out.

That really stinks. Damage was only on the front end? They might angle for repair vs totaling it since these cars are worth $$$.

The only reason people are decent and take the time to offer assistance to you is because you do not live in America. No one here gives a $hit about anyone else.

I have to admit that it does not look totaled to me. I HOPE it is so that you don't have to argue loss of value, but it looks like a fixer to me. The drivetrain has to be worth 1/4 the value at least, and that is fine I'm sure.

Pick your own bodyshop. Work with the bodyshop, not the adjuster to get it totaled. The insurance companies have "preferred" body shops that cut them a break and sometimes cut corners with your repair. If that fails, claim dimunition of value. That might push the cost to repair and loss of value beyond the threshold to total it. Since it the same insurer on both cars, make them give you a rental car so you take your time making decisions. Ex wife had a minor crash causing a slightly tweeked front subframe on a MBZ. I picked the bodyshop and they argued for three weeks to get the adjuster to approve it. The insurance company's preferred body shop would have rolled over and not fixed it and I would have never known.

 

I think what might help me to have it totalled is the fact that it is a C4S (hopefully front differential damage, etc.) and that both airbags went off (not sure how much these are but apparently quite a lot).

The other guy was driving an Infiniti G35x (2006). Nice car - but I don't feel bad.

"Frame" damage? Guys, this is a Porsche. Ever heard of monoque construction? That's no where near totalled.

 

Be very careful. The company should appoint two different independent adjustors. One for him and one for you. There is a conflict of interest. Remember an insurance company's goal is to pay the least amount of money.

Glad you are ok-that is what is important. Cars can be replaced and fixed, humans much more difficult.

Car looks totaled to me. You can not really tell until they open it up. At that velocity, the car will do what it is suppose to do, and spread out the forces through out the car to avoid the human occupents from sustaining serious injury. Thus, there may be a lot of hidden damage.

 

Latest update from body shop puts repairs at $28K (Canadian dollars). Awaiting to hear back from insurance company.

 

Wow, that was a helluva hit. $28K plus diminished value. My car is being appraised by an independent appraiser right now after just getting the car back. Total damange to mine was $9k US. The appraiser said as a rule of thumb, the diminished value can be between 10-20% of the retail price. Sounds like yours would be near the upper end.
