Quick Radio Question
I currently have the CDR 210 cd player and am interested in replacing with the more recent CDR 23 which has the rotary ***** for volume and sound. Does anyone know if I can just oull out my CDR210 and slide in the CDR 23, or does some kind of modification need to be done?
Thanks

The easiest thing to do is compare the back harness and wiring setup. I know on my cdr23 manual it had the wiring schematics.
Check your manual for yours and see if they are using the same wire harness. Then compare the wiring.
Renntech has some manuals I believe.

IIRC, the only difference between the two was that the 210 has a casette player and the 220 has the CD player. I think they both used the same wiring connectors.
ToolPants is right....I bought an "upgrade" from a fellow who sent me the CDR23 and wouldnt' take it back when I found out that is used the MOST fibre optics setup. Anyone want a CDR23 reasonably priced?

The 210 and 220 both came in cassette or cd versions. CR is cassette. CDR is cd.
With some exceptions the 220 came out for model year 1999. Back then it was popular for 1997-1998 Boxster owners to remove the 210 and put in a 220. The specs of both are identical, but the 220 had aux-in and the 210 did not.
It is a direct swap but you have to do something about the alarm contact for the radio because it is in a different location.

I searched and this thread is about as close as I could come to an answer, so I'll post my question here:
How is the CDR-210 radio removed? I don't see any slots like those on the -220 and -23 units. What gives?

I wouldn't even spend the money on a CDR-220, even though it's serviceable enough for a stock radio. If you're keen to upgrade, go after a Nakamichi, which has a similar amber hue for the color.

I took out my 210 and replaced it with a 210 so I'd have an aux output. They are not identical...the 210 is just a bit smaller, and thus uses a sleeve, which is then inserted into the dash slot along with the radio as a single unit (radio plus sleeve). The 220 does not use this sleeve, i.e., you just insert the radio directly into the dash slot. Scott.

All I really wanted was an auxiliary input for my digital player to feed, so a used 220 does that simply and at a low cost while retaining the OEM look. The fact that I get a volume **** instead of the 210's up/down toggle (that I can't stand) is a bonus. But if I were going to go with a non-OEM radio, the Nakamichi would probably be my choice simply because I like their front panels.
