Good point. Especially if there is no desire to obtain any serious buyers.

Isn't that what the buying market does? Most people are trying to be realistic and honest and just find friendly humor when a seller lists at emotional value rather than market value. I mean this is a chat board isn't it, correct? Now if this was the FOR SALE fourm I would totally agree with your concurrment of Todd's quick b!tch slap.

Of course, they are a dealer and list at a number that they hope a sucker will pay and then negotiate with everybody else. Nothing wrong though with mal28 (or anybody) listing their car for whatever they want. It just depends if they really want to price it to sell or not. That's all.

As for tone of this thread..........
Nobody is rude. Nobody is flaming the selling. Everybody just chill.

FYI...the "trade-in" numbers quoted by mal28 are really Private Party Numbers. Trade is numbers are about 7K less than that. Which explains why most people are saying that the car is overpriced at 65K and then offering an opinion on a DISCUSSION board. 60K would be a good deal for both buyer and seller. Now flame away at my pricing advice.

I wasn't trying to call anyone in particular out, and it is not just this thread. It seems to be endemic now.

If someone posts a thread about "what would be a fair price" . . . whether as buyer or seller . . . then by all means everyone should give their opinion on price. That would be the point of the thread. Here is a good example of such a thread: https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-955-957-2003-2010/348384-what-do-you-think-it-s-worth.html

If a non-member places a for sale thread, then, by all means call him or her out on that (I will not, but there are enough who will).

When a guy posts something for sale, he is not asking for anyone's opinion on his asking price, particularly when he comes out and says "price is negotiable." Sure this is a BBS board, and everyone can say anything they want, but that doesn't mean they should.

If you are serious about the car and have questions about the car, by all means post them so all other potential buyers can learn. I personally would not . . . I would send a PM.

If you are not serious about the car, they why snipe at the price in the first place? What's the point? I mean, afterall, it helps all of us if prices stay higher, no? Price sniping is sort of like running down your own neighborhood . . . I just do not get the point.

I am not upset, annoyed, and my panties certainly aren't in a wad, I just provided my personal opinion on a trend that I see that I personally do not like.

I may be selling my car soon, and I am pretty sure that I will not be listing it on Rennlist.

TD, well said. I totally agree with you. It's too bad others choose to "impose" their "agenda".

I have no agenda.

I wish every seller luck in getting the best price, but some of the prices posted do make me shake my head a little.

Plenty of posted prices make me shake my head, and if a buyer, or seller, asked me, I would be brutally honest . . . so I view that as a totally different issue.

Bingo! I'd typically keep quiet unless the discussion was going, then if appropriate voice my opinion.

And just to clarify, I honestly wasn't trying to go after you, Dell, or anyone else. I just think that we voluntarily should refrain from price sniping on a pure "for sale" thread. For example, in this thread, the seller didn't ask for anyone's opinion on his listed for sale price, particularly when he clarified that price was negotiable.

P.S. I also was not expressing any opinions on the price of this C4S. Good luck with the sale.

I know Todd. I have the fortunate advantage over most of the guys here to actually have met you and know what kind of guy you are. They might take that personally, however I understand exactly your point.

Most of the back and forth banter (more specifically) with respect to pricing a C4S has been the result of history with Gant and his many threads and discussions about the pricing of his C4S. I really haven't seen this kind of attention to any other cars posted for sale.

So......post away your Targa when you are ready to sell.

C4S owners price their cars high because we are so enamored with them that we cannot fathom the existence of a world that does not hold the car in the same high esteem.

Plus, the cars were $90+ grand new, and who wants to admit that they just pissed away 30 grand in 3 years? I think the car should be priced at $75k.

I agree with the above listings. Don't flame a guy for trying to get top dollar out of his/her car. People can ask anything they want for a product/service. It called supply & demand. The market will let him know where the price should be. Good luck with the sale.
PS. i just bought a 2003 CS4 yesterday with all the options, 11,500 miles for 57K. Primo car.

There's a parallel on another forum where high end photographic gear are bought and sold: www.fredmiranda.com.

The official policy there is "NO PRICE POLICE!!"

If anyone tries to post followup messages like "Your Canon EF 200/1.8L lens for $5000 is overpriced and it should be $4999" or the likes, that message will be called out by everyone else and the moderator will delete the message.

The problem with price policing was that very frequently a generally fair price will be lowballed by a dozen messages on how the seller should just about give away the equipment and eat the Paypal fees. Turns out those folks are usually not even into buying the gear, but then has ruined the sale.

We don't have a policy like that here, of course, but I think the decorum is just as appropriate: anyone can post his/her price. If you think the price is too high, that's why there are private message or email options of contacting the seller.

I agree. IT GETS OLD, this claimed "banter" with "history." Let the guy post his car for sale and be a gentleman about it, not crap on his thread.

Good luck on the sale mal28.
