Default Short Shifters

I have been reading around this forum about the B&M short shifter. Seems like a great mod that is pretty cheap. I have also read about how to avoid the imitation short shifters. Why? I haven't been able to find a good explaination. Could somebody explain this for me as I would really like to purchase a kit.

Thanks,
Steve

problem with imitations is that you can't really trust them. some are just made of inferior parts (linkages snap, doen't select gear, etc etc.), others just don't fit right. i mean you u might be able to get a great imitiation product but is it really worth the risk? Like a lot of the people on this forum say "you get what you pay for". So yeah if i were u i would go with the b&m and call it a day. or if you want get the 9ff short shift kit, it comes with a new gear ****, short shifter, and can't remeber what else for 500bucks.

Is there any way to tell which SSK you have - obviously it was on the car when I purchased - very notchy, 1st- 2nd sometimes difficult, other gears seem fine.

I put an OEM SSK in shortly after purchase and love it - rifle bolt feel to shifter is great. I understand there's little difference between B&M and OEM. I also went with the Agency Power linkage, but many go with the EVO unit. No problems with either.

I would hope not! I think you have to actually drive the car to have the chance to experience shifting issues.

Phil - let's swap cars for 6 months! I PROMISE your car will be up to "oil change mileage" when you get it back!

Tim, just imagine how well I sleep at night NOT worrying about my shifter. And I plan to change the oil and brake fluid next Fall - by then I should have at least 2500 miles on the car

Humm, changing 15,000 mile oil at 2,500 miles. Sounds like a plan to me!

I installed the Schnell which is similiar to the B&M SSK. No issues as of today.

Hmmm, shouldn't you actually change oil at least every 12 months if you don't reach the millage for an oil change?

Yes. Acids and other stuff you don't want build up in the oil over time.

I change the oil once/year at inspection date, mileage or not (not, since I usually end up with less than 5k miles/year). No flames. I'm driving it. But hauling large parts in the C4S Cab compared to the SUV is a bit of a task.

I was in the same situation when I bought mine. So I pryed off the shifter boot (it snaps right off) then looked at the shifter assembly. It was a machined blue color which indicated to me it was a B&M. That's the only way I could tell...
