Default 1st gear redline/ tire purchase

If you push 1st into the red, is the car supposed to react in a kind of stall/loss of power?

Also, after about 16K miles my rear conti's are done, the fronts are fine. Should I replace the rears and keep the brand, or consider new tires and do all four? What do you like for an everyday drive (except winter).

Thanks for your inout.

Well, the fuel should cut out if you're deep enough in the red, so yes, I should it could feel that way.

16k on rears ain't bad at all. Usually the rule of thumb is swapping the fronts every other time you swap the rears. So stick with the fronts if they have ~>50% tread, and just get more Contis.

I always put SO2's on my 911 (when I had the C2). But tires are like ******** - everyone likes a different one! (Wait, I think I butchered that...)

Yes, that is the "rev. limiter" kicking in. As Porsche_Smile stated, it shuts off the gas temporarily to keep you from over reving the engine and blowing it up.

BTW - it works in all gears, not just 1st gear.

... and if you do it on public roads in any gear >3, then you might need to explain this to a judge.

Default 16K is pretty damn good!

I've got 8.5K on Kumho Ecsta SPTs and it's replacement time. I'm re-ordering them to stay with the same F/R tire and will switch all 4 next time. Was trying them out for the value. FWIW - noise good, handling avg., treadlife crap and worst of all...variable and often terrible flatspotting overnight, leading me to believe there's some mftg. fluctuation/flaw. Hopefully it was just the set I got.

Flat spotting just appears to be normal. I've had Pirelli and Bridgestone tires and they all do the same thing overnight. I'm guessing weight over the rear tires, camber and softness of tires as the culprits here.
