Big oil leek!!!!!! Help!!!!!!!!!!!!
Driving home from work yesterday and noticed white smoke in my rear view mirror. Luckily i was a few stop signs from my house. Pulled in my drive way and turned the car off. I looked in the engine bay and noticed oil splattered every where. I looked under the car and found the worst of the worst!! A big oil leek. A pretty consistant flow. Man im so bumbed out! Can anyone help before taking the car to porsche and getting raped!!!!!!!

Ouch. =(
I had my RMS fail a month ago, out of warranty, no service contract, major oil leak (puddle in the garage, drip per hour after driving to work, complete failure by the time I got it to the mechanic a couple hours later). I went to a good independent, and the repair was about $950, including parts, labor, and the oil change. Hopefully it is something on the order of this for you, not bigger!
For comparison, the Porsche dealer quoted me $1200 for an RMS repair, which was not outrageously higher than the independent mechanic.
Whatever the mechanic tells you, post it here, this community is great for calling BS when something smells funny.

Sounds like the oil seperator. I'd almost bet my paycheck on that. Looking at the age of your car that sounds like the appropiate guess. The only thing that might keep this from being the oil seperator is the smoke. That isn't a good thing.

Nah, I didn't think so!

Good clarification Brad. I initially interpreted that as smoke form the exhaust pipes. But now that I think about it, oil all over the place would lead to smoke out the back. I think I had visions of what the F1 cars look like when the motor goes......POOF! Smoke pouring out the back.
Seems that with the seperator, this smoke is understood and not nearly as bad. Just a byproduct of spraying.
