Default Just hit 60k miles, Maint?

I just hit 60k miles today. Is it due for a major tune up? What should I look at changing or checking?

Sounds like allot so they can charge allot! If out of warranty I would go to an INDY if not well then the choice becomes more difficult.

95% is checks, not really maintenance

Default 60K maintenance summary

The 60K service is essentially:

The 15K service (change the oil, filter, and cabin filter)

The 30K service (15K service + change the air filter)

and the addition of changing the spark plugs (01 and earlier get this at 30K), and changing the serpentine belt.

Plus the usual check for leaks, squeaks, look at how much brake pad is left, etc.

This is a totally DIY activity. All of the DIY instructions are over on RennTech.org

This stuff is a big money maker for dealer and independents as well because it is so easy, and all of the inspection lists make it easy for them to pack it with 3-4 more hours of labor.

DIY, save some money, and get to know your car!

vwrado,

just had mine done - some of it I probably could do myself, some not. For me, it paid to have my indy do a thorough check up.

Basically, this is what we agreed to do - besides him just looking around to make sure he didn't find anything that needed to be fixed (although we did go ahead and reseal the cam covers from seepage but this was a preexisting condition I knew about and was waiting for the right opportunity to take care of).

Plugs, oil change, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter (clean/oil), pollen filter !!, accessory (serpentine) belt, flushed brake system, - about $700

Thanks for the info guys. I will be performing all of my maint. work myself as I have done so in the past with all of my cars. Most of this sounds easy.

Which spark plugs do you guys recommend?

Get the 4 tip platinum plugs that are listed for the 02-05 996. Then you can stretch your plug interval change to 60K.

Yeah, I just had this exact job done on mine. A local P dealer did it for $1050. That included pick-up and delivery via trailer. A round trip of around 3 hours. Of course they bent me over slightly with new front pads (textar)...slightly over $300 for pads, labor, and sensors. 1 hour labor for pads is too much.

First if you have the 3.6, follow the recommendations above. BUT, if you have the 3.4, DO NOT DRIVE IT. Your engine will blow up at 60,014 miles.

How about the tranny fluid? I thought this had to be replaced at 60k as well...

What is the intervals on "differential fluid"...?
